Resume Builder

A project made in java which helps you create your resume without writing code. Fill the details in the application and get your resume ready.

Getting Started

These instructions will get you a copy of the project up and running on your local machine for development and testing purposes. This project has been done in Ecilipse IDE. It uses Windows Builder and Swing for UX/UI in the application. Java Database Connectivity(JDBC) is used for connecting the MySQL database.

Prerequisites

Java - Java version 10 and above is required. Installing Java in Linux
MySQL - Installing MySQL in Linux
Eclipse - If you want to run the project in Eclipse, import the project. Or if you want to run it without Eclipse use the .jar file of the project. Installing Eclipse

Scope of Functionalities and Examples of use

Resume creation without the hassle of writing code for it. Will be a good resume builder for beginners and people who are not familiar with LateX.

Project status

Returns a resume file with all the data entered in a formatted manner. The file name of the resume returned is Resume.txt.

Future Scope/Plan of the Project

Formatting Options

The present project returns a fixed formatted text file of the resume. The next step is to provide various formatting options for the user while giving the information. Formatting options like -

* headings
* subheadings
* lists
* normal text
* quotes
* hyperlinks
* alignment
and all other necessary options.

Templates
- Default Templates Having more number of default templates to chose from.
- Custom Templates Allow the user to customize the template as required.
File Formats
- Support for various file formats necessary have to be given for the project.
  - .pdf

Automate the database linking

As of now the project does not link to any existing database. It has to be manually connected every time you install it. Automate the process of creating the required database or linking to a database if alreadys exists.

Introduce support for different file formats

The project at present returns a resume in resume.txt file. Introduce supports for .pdf file format and other important file formats.

Creating Custom templates

Introduce the option for creating custom templates in the application and saving them. All the formatting options should be available for creating custom templates.

Change the file name from resume.txt to name.txt.

The resume file is resume.txt for any user. It should create the resume in a file named with user's full name.

Develop the project into an automatic Job Description and Resume Similarity engine

The project should take job descriptions from multiple job websites and also from the user along with resumes and find the similarity between them. Match the resumes and job descriptions and give them a similarity score.

Add Resume Parser

Add an option to parse a given resume and extract the details in the format specified by the user.

Make new templates of resumes

Introduce new templates to choose from, for the users to create resumes. The default template also has to be improved.

Resume Classifier

After the user is done with the resume, this software should classify the resume and tag it accordingly based on the analysis. The resumes could be related to AI, ML, Cloud, IoT and so on.

Options for Formatting

Create options for formatting the resume. It should allow the users to format their resumes in the UI. It will be helpful for users creating custom resumes.

Formatting options like

headings
subheadings
lists
normal text
quotes
hyperlinks
alignment and all other necessary options.

Support for image formatting options

As a follow up of #7 , create options for introducing images into the resume and formatting options for images too.

Use JavaFX for UI

The present framework for UI is in Swings. Move the whole project UI into JavaFX.

Create stylesheets compatible with JavaFX

Improve the UI with stylsheets. Connect the stylesheets with JavaFX #3.
