Hi @bncastle,
this seems to be an interesting project. I could see myself using it in the future, but it's missing some important features I'd really like to see implemented:

1. use a temp hxml file (instead of concatenating strings from .hx file), so that #comments are preserved
2. make it possible to pass additional args to the compiler (hix Main.hx -verbose)
3. change label support to something like :label and relay the rest of the args to :appexe:
4. define a strategy on how current path is resolved (hix src/Main.hx vs hix Main.hx)
5. access haxe defines and expose them to hix if/when possible
6. WARNING: you'll probably hit a problem when your hix: directives are inside an unwanted conditional compilation block (#if cpp ... #end), but that's not easily solvable I think

PS: You might find mlib useful. I've not used yet but, for the look of it, it seems really useful to automate some of the stuff we need (cli/compiling/hxml/tempfiles).
