Crosswalk Q lateral from NWM v2.1 to refactored stream network

We need to map the lateral flows (q_lat) for each NWM v2.1 segment to the refactored stream network. This may require partitioning/aggregating flows from multiple segments.

Eventually we will need to use this method to reroute q_lat from short headwater streams that are removed from the refactored network as a post processing step.

  • for each NWM v2.1 segment, use the crosswalk to map q_lat time series to the appropriate refactored segment(s)
  • generate a new csv with q_lat time series for every segment in the refactored network
  • generate a crosswalk file that tracks how the flows were partitioned/aggregated between networks

Method for evaluating refactored network vs NWM v2.1 using Courant Number violations

Develop a workflow for comparing Courant Number violations between datasets.

Requested outputs:

  • CN violations, total segment count; timesteps
  • min, max, average, median stream segment length for the original and refactored networks
  • check number of unique segments that violate CN (control for multiple time step violations)
  • % of stream network by length with CN violations over period of time
  • network order -- (bin by order) -> get clarification from @jameshalgren
