A case for a 5 star rating system about godot-asset-library-laravel HOT 1 CLOSED

I appreciate the concern, but I believe star ratings are the worst approach to rating stuff online:

There's just so much wasted space in the "crap" category… If I had a time machine, I'd try to convince e-commerce sites not to keep using those 😉

While you can add a hard cap to the number of reviews required to display an average rating, it doesn't scale down well. We're not going to have hundreds of reviews on most assets anytime soon. Reviewing will become easier thanks to GitHub/GitLab logins, but I'd still expect most assets to have less than 20 reviews for a while.

The good news is, we can solve this sorting problem while keeping our current upvote/downvote system:

Using Wilson score for sorting with the current upvote/downvote approach will lead to better sorting. Alternatively, we could use an approach similar to the one used by SteamDB with a custom, simpler algorithm.

PS: For the record, Wilson score (or similar approaches) are used on popular websites such as Reddit.
