charm-logdump-action

GitHub Action for dumping logs and metadata related to a charm deployment. Currently only works with the microk8s provider.

Usage

      - name: Dump logs
        uses: canonical/charm-logdump-action@HEAD
        if: failure()
        with:
          app: hello-kubecon

Configuration

Configuration is supplied through the with keyword.

Property Description
app Name of the app you are testing. Required
model Name of the model you are deploying to. Defaults to testing.
operator Name of the deployed operator. Defaults to modeloperator.

Enable a wildcard input for `model`

Requiring a model input kind of runs contrary to how pytest-operator works, especially for cases where we have multiple pytest files (each of which should run in a separate model). For example, if we have:

tests
- integration
- - test_something.py
- - test_something_else.py

Those tests will be run in parallel and likely need separate models. It would be great to be able to dump logs from that style test whenever we have a failure, too.

Perhaps we can do one of:

  • enable * (or make model optional, with empty meaning *), and have the logdump dump logs for all models
  • enable patterns (eg: test-charm-*), and dump logs from matching models
