cantata's Issues

Genre tab does not work in albums.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Choose genre tab in albums but no changes.
2. It works well in library.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Sorting genres in albums.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
R1220 on Ubuntu 12.04

Please provide any additional information below.

Start playing from newly added song

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have at least one song on playlist.
2. Wait for Cantata to finish playing playlist.
3. Find some song in Library or Folders and it it to playlist using "Plus" icon.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Song is added to playlist and Cantata starts playing. But it starts from very
first song, whereas I would expect it to start playing from added song (I am
adding it because I want to listen to it, right?).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Cantata 0.7.0 (r1164) on Debian testing (amd64).

Please provide any additional information below.
I think that this is arguable which behavior (current or proposed) is expected.
Maybe there should be configuration option for it?

Also please note that song may be not only added (to end of playlist), but also
drag and dropped somewhere in the middle of playlist. New behavior should be
aware of it and not simply play last song in playlist.

Or it could be solved by adding new way to add song to playlist. There would be
then three icons next to each song (in Library/Folder view):
1. Add song to end of playlist, start from beginning if MPD is stopped ("plus"
icon right now)
2. Clear playlist, add song, play it ("play" icon right now)
3. Add song to end of playlist, play it if MPD is stopped.

This way drag and drop behavior would remain unchanged.

Unidentified artist icon looks too big in library

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. In library, set tree style and small covers.
2. Some artist images not available and the unidentified artist icon looks big.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Unidentified artist image matched identified ones.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Information box with currently played track messed up by huge cover image files

== What steps will reproduce the problem? ==
1. Play some song associated with huge (in dimension) cover image file. Roger
Subirana is nice example — it comes with 1267x1267px cover, which Cantata
will happily use (and it's free to download). URL:
http://www.jamendo.com/list/a24680/lost-words
2. Place your mouse pointer on cover in upper left corner of Cantata window.
3. After short delay Cantata will display toolbox with Artist, Album, Year and
album cover.

== What is the expected output? ==
Huge covers should not take most of the screen. Since there is no way to scroll
through that image, there is also no way to see whole cover.

== What do you see instead? ==
It depends.

Big images are shown in full resolution. They take most of the screen and can't
be seen as a whole.

Huge images (bigger than screen resolution) are much worse. Not only there is
no way to see them as a whole, they also blink. Toolbox with cover takes whole
screen. Due to that, Cantata loses track of mouse pointer (Cantata thinks that
pointer has been moved out of cover) and hides toolbox. As soon as toolbox
vanishes, Cantata realizes that mouse pointer is placed over cover and displays
toolbox again. And then again Cantata hides it as soon as it takes whole
screen. It makes toolbox appear and disappear over and over again.

== What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? ==
r1119 from SVN, Debian testing amd64.

== Please provide any additional information below ==
Cantata should either limit cover to some fixed dimension (which has some
drawbacks on it's own, as screen resolutions for desktop computers are bigger
and bigger, while KDE is working fine on tablets and smartphones too) or
relative to screen dimension. Of course it's important to keep ratio of cover
image (they are mostly squared, but not necessarily).

Albums with songs in multiple formats show as separate "albums" in play queue

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create or obtain an album with songs in more than one format.
2. Make sure the entire album is tagged properly.
3. Add the album to MPD's library, then Cantata's playlist.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see a single album header in Cantata's playlist with all of the
tracks listed underneath. Instead, depending on the formats involved, the album
listing will break up every time the format changes. (I'm not sure I explained
that properly, so I attached a screenshot.)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Cantata r1346 on Kubuntu Precise.

Please provide any additional information below.
This works properly for some formats. MP3+FLAC works properly and shows as one
continuous album, but MP3+M4A does not. The screenshot shows an MP3+M4A album,
with track 5 being the one M4A.

Cannot use MPD password in Cantata's connection settings

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set up password protection on your MPD server.
2. Add the password to Cantata's connection settings.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect Cantata to connect to the MPD server with the password provided.
Instead, Cantata discards the password the moment you press OK or try to save
the configuration. It WILL successfully connect if you reconnect to the server
from the configuration dialog, but it reconnects again without a password as
soon as you exit the dialog no matter what happens.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Cantata r1296 on Kubuntu Precise. The problem exists at least as far back as
v1.7.1.

Please provide any additional information below.
My MPD configuration is known to be working because I've used MPD with
Client175, ncmpc, and Sonata without any problems, password and all.

Treats albums with same name as one album instead of separate them

Sometime bands release different material under the same album name. E.g.
American punk rock band Rancid released two self-titled albums: one in 1993 and
one in 2000.
The same goes for different releases of the same album around the world.
Typically US or UK release is "standard", while Japan or Australian releases
have some bonus tracks.

Given few albums of one artists with the same albums name, Cantata treats them
as one album. Cantata does store year information in local database file, so
perhaps it could recognize that these are different albums.

== What is the expected output? ==
Albums with the same name, but different release year, displayed separately
under artist name in library tab and on playlist.

== What do you see instead? ==
Albums with the same name are treated as one album, even if release year
differs.

2. Song duration and progress time don't appear
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

New translations for .desktop file

I am attaching patch that adds few languages to existing cantata.desktop file.
Namely: bs da es fi fr gl hu jv ms nb oc pl pt pt_BR ru sq tr.

In fact, these are carelessly copied from GMPC's .desktop file. GMPC is
licensed under GPLv2, the same as Cantata, so I think it is fine to take and
reuse it.

dbus interface for dynamic playlists

I found that I like dynamic playlists best when MPD is in random and consume
mode. Right now I need to way-to-many clicks to achieve desired configuration.

If Cantata had dbus interface for dynamic playlists, then I could write simple
shell script and play Cantata I like it with just one click :) .

dbus interface should be able to:
1. list all available dynamic playlists
2. select dynamic playlist
3. start/stop dynamic mode

1. Make Cantata use tray icon
2. Hide Cantata (close window; tray icon remains).
3. Use 'cantata' command.

== What is the expected output? What do you see instead? ==

Checkbox labels are not linked with checkbox

== What steps will reproduce the problem? ==
1. Open configuration window
2. Go to "Interface" tab (there are some checkboxes there)
3. Click any checkbox label

== What is the expected output? What do you see instead? ==
I would expect checkbox state to change.
Instead, checkbox gains focus. It's state can be switched back and forth with
space. User's who does not figure it out are forced to point cursor into small
checkbox instead of much bigger label.

== Please provide any additional information below. ==
There are many open source programs that does change checkbox state when label
is clicked. Maybe looking into their code will be helpful.
One example: Kadu <http://gitorious.org/kadu/>.
There is also setBuddy function for QLabels in Qt
(<http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/qlabel.html#setBuddy>) that assigns key
press to labeled item. Maybe there is something similar for clicking?

Fails to write GUI changes to cofig file

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Change anything in GUI, like hide/show lyrics panel
2. Quit Cantata
3. Start Cantata again

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
GUI changes are not present after restart. But they are correctly read, as you
can manually edit cantatarc files and everything will be in place.

This has worked about 150 commits ago (sorry, I did not update Cantata for a
long time), so it is regression.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I am using Debian testing on amd64, Cantata KDE version.
I have noticed that most of packages are for KDE 4.8.4, but kdelibs and
kdelibs-dev (which I compiled Cantata against) are 4.8.3. So this may be caused
by version mismatch and incomplete KDE migration in Debian. But I highly doubt
that something as crucial as WriteConfig function would change in minor KDE
update. Noting it, though.

2. Try to copy a FLAC to a media device (with target format set to mp3)

On two-element playlist, loses track info if second item is playing and first item is removed

== What steps will reproduce the problem? ==
1. Make playlist of exactly two songs
2. Play second of these
3. Remove first one from playlist

== What is the expected output? ==
Nothing unusual should happen. First song should be removed from playlist,
that's all.

== What do you see instead? ==
Cantata loses track about what song is played. Instead of album cover, it
displays generic application-internet icon (perhaps depends on KDE icon theme
used). On toolbox, displayed when mouse pointer is hovered over cover, it
displays nothing.

I am attaching screenshot which shows what Cantata window does look like when
bug is encountered.

== What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? ==
r1119 from SVN (will upgrade after this bug is fixed, promise! :) ) on Debian
testing amd64.

== Additional info ==
Strangely enough, it happens only if there are exactly two songs on playlist.
If there are three or more songs, removing songs on position before currently
played one does not trigger the bug.

It does not happen if consume mode is turned on. You have to delete song
manually (but you can use another MPD client to do so).

Dynamic playlists - can't use new ruleset if previous was removed when active

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create two Dynamic rules. Be it anything.
2. Play one of them.
3. Remove currently used rule. Symlink in ~/.cache/cantata/dynamic/ will be
broken (pointing to non-existing file).
4. Try to play second Dynamic rule.

Output:
Cantata complains "Failed to install rules file - <target> -> <symlink>".

What is the expected output:
When playing new dynamic ruleset, Cantata should check if existing symlink
points to existing file. If no, it should delete symlink before creating new.

Cycling through the lyrics providers is not possible

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. play a track while the lyrics page is open
2. (discover that the lyrics are of bad quality)
3. click the refresh button

Instead of using the next available lyrics provider it'll always download the
lyrics from the first provider.

I attached a patch which fixes this behavior.

Dynamic ignores rules with only Date field

Dynamic playlists that have only Date field filled are ignored by
cantata-dynamic perl script (saveRule function is never called for them).

I am attaching patch that solves that issue.

(Perhaps it should be made more generic - Dates should be put into $currentRule
variable and saveRule second argument (array of dates) should be dropped. But
since I do not feel like fully understanding current code, I don't want to
break something in process.)

"Problems setting volume" - MPD volume left at zero after stopping playback

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Play some music in Cantata.
2. Stop playback with the stop button.
3. Restart playback.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
This is sort of two related problems. One, whenever MPD stops playback (Last
song in playlist ends, "mpc stop", et cetera), Cantata throws a "Problems
setting volume" error. Two, when I stop playback in Cantata with the stop
button, the fade-out effect leaves MPD's volume in Pulseaudio at 0%.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Cantata r1335 and latest git MPD on Kubuntu Precise.

Please provide any additional information below.
I don't really know what I'm talking about here, but it looks like MPD
disconnects from Pulseaudio before Cantata can finish playing with the volume
controls. (Or at least it doesn't show up in Veromix anymore after stopping.)
I've seen issue 23, which looks related, but I haven't specified anything about
the mixer in my mpdconf.
