I'm having ASUS FX505DY Laptop which has AMD Ryzen 3550H CPU and RX560X (1002:67EF). I cannot drive the display from either of the GPU. The install is successful, but i cannot get display. The APU is connected to the Internal Screen and the HDMI is also connected to APU.

The latest version of NootedRed is running very smoothly. To test the VNC functionality, I added the "-nredvcn" args. Here's an interesting thing: when streaming with parsec, H.264 cannot be hardware decoded, but H.265 can be hardware decoded successfully. I hope this information is helpful to you.

First of all, congrats for the great work on this, I'm seeing a lot of users reporting success using nootedred kext.
Please, when you have some time, please take a look on my issue. Maybe solving this will help someone else with similar problem.

Describe the bug
I used the NootInc Guide, then Dortania's opencore guide, and some other guides/forums on the Internet.

I've installed MacOS Ventura using whatevergreen kext, and it boots fine using it, no acceleration of course.
When I change to nooted red, after the debug messages (I've verbose mode enabled), when it tries to go into GUI mode, the screen turns off/goes black.
I'm using 2GB shared memory to vram, and enabled above 4g decoding, both using UMAF tool.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Install the system after creating custom opencore EFI, with usb mapping, and boot-args disabling dGPU and using ncpi=0x2000. Secure boot disabled. ACPI mapping was done using Windows SSDTtime, added kext to turn dGPU off as well.
2. Use UMAF tool to enable 4G decoding and set 2GB to VRAM, check on windows that its working (need to keep bios setting for vram as auto, or it will use 512MB otherwise)
3. Check it still boots fine and have GUI using whatevergreen.
4. Disable whatevergreen, enable nootedred, and boot.
5. Now after the boot messages, the screen is black.

Expected behavior
We expected to see login screen instead of black screen.

Sorry to bother you with this one, but I've tried everything that I could. I've seen similar but not same issues reported here, like issue #52 , #120 and #124 . But with what was said I was not able to make it work. Please, let me know if you need more info, I can run commands using the ssh access or using VNC access, one weird thing is that using VNC when nootedred is enabled is more responsive than using whatevergreen.

Good evening. How many times I read telegram or this thread, but I could not be sure until the end. Are the current hangs (as in the video) at this stage of NootedRed acceptable?

Specification:

Ryzen 7 5800h (vega 8 mobile)
Opencore 0.9.4 release
Latest nootedred (master)

Tried also this method of fixing, but no effect was obtained.

I also know there are problems with VdA decoding, but even if the system is idle after opening and closing the "settings" app - the hangs don't disappear at all. They only become intermediate. Will appear for 5-10 seconds and disappear for 1-10 minutes. And so on repeatedly.

Describe the bug
I copied the NootedRed kext and removed whatevergreen. Also cleared nvrm 3 times but i cannot get into the desktop. As soon as I enter my password, it keeps on loading and then crashes and reprompts for login password.

I believe the kext is working because the general mouse movement fluency and transparency is visible. I was able to get into desktop once and it was still loading and then it crashed after a while. And let me make this clear, the system was unusable, dock didn't show up. I changed nothing

A clear and concise description of what the bug is. When running macOS Catalina graphics acceleration works but brightness is uncontrollable (it pretends to control but no effect is had) and there is a lot of graphical artefacting, especially in heavier tasks.

Additional context
I followed the official OpenCore AMD installation guide, and the system booted successfully without any issues when NootedRed.kext was not included.

However, after adding NootedRed.kext, the system crashes and reboots after displaying logs (screenshots are available).

I'm not entirely sure about the cause of the problem. Could anyone please take a look? Thank you!

The video adapter hangs the system while trying to initialize

3. After the Apple logo and around 40% boot progress the system hangs at a black screen and OS loading stops

Recovery boots fine. Also tried booting macOS Sonoma beta with the same outcome. System worked perfectly with the older versions on both versions of macOS.

Describe the bug
My cpu is 5900hx and the Geekbench mark is around 8300 in both windows and macOS without the kext. But turning it on, the mark decreases to around 7300. I've also tested r23 cpu mark(13000 to 11000).
This is a weird one.
And by the way I've got a black screen and rebooting when I turned the FileVault function on.

Describe the bug
Upon booting from a USB with EFI and __MACOSX on it, verbose text will scroll for ~10 seconds and then the machine will restart, effectively boot looping.

Without NootedRed, I am able to boot into macOS, albeit with no acceleration whatsoever; macOS seems to think it only has 7MB (yes. megabytes) of VRAM. I used Smokeless_UMAF (https://github.com/DavidS95/Smokeless_UMAF) to increase my available framebuffer from 512MB to 4GB. I tried 2GB initially, and moving to 4GB seem to have had no effect on the issue.

So after installation the screen is blank after boot, but.it seems that graphics work normally.
Before I installed NootedRed I installed AnyDesk and enabled unattended access
After installation & reboot I connected to the laptop, and noticed few things

1. Blur has appeared on Dock & Status bar
2. "Display" property disappeared from "About Mac"
3. macOS recognizes the display as "Built-in Display"
4. Default resolution is not the real screen resolution
5. Animations are buttery-smooth

Starting a screen recording crashes macOS. Reason unknown, panic related to compute. Investigation will begin once all other issues are resolved.

The system has a severe color cast, it should be blue but it shows blue-green

My CPU is r9 5900hx, and using the same EFI, NootedRed can be enabled in Monterey, but it cannot be enabled in Ventura. During Ventura installation, NootedRed was not enabled, and after installation, VESA mode entered the system normally. After enabling NootedRed, the code flashes and then restarts. Describe the bug After enabling hardware acceleration in the Edge browser, the computer freezes when entering characters in the address bar or playing videos. The freeze manifests as the mouse being able to move, but all other graphical interfaces are not moving. In addition, there is screen tearing when playing videos. When frozen, moving the mouse over the Dock does not enlarge it, even though Dock scaling is enabled in macOS settings. To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior: 1. Enable hardware acceleration in the Edge browser 2. Enter characters in the address bar or play videos 3. Observe freezing and screen tearing 4. To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. build a fresh efi with these kexts, drivers , ssdts : https://imgur.com/a/txJw0Ac

2. using opecore version 9.3
   EFI-modded2.zip

3. add latest nootred kext

4. reboot and you will see different error messages every time all linked to the same issue I guess.

Expected behavior
expected it to boot fine as it boots without gpu acceleration using the same efi.

Additional context
Right now my macOS works good (without graphic acceleration) , but when using nootred then this error occurs. which seems to be linked to with acpi somehow. I re did my entire apis 3 times , tried doing the manual away too. but all of them only work without graphic acceleration, all of them just get stuck at this error and that means there must a specific cause which I am not able to understand.

Also there is not much info regarding nootred no about this error. I tried do my best and finally decided to ask it directly to the authors of nootred. I really appreciate what you are doing for the amd community. I don't ask much from you as this may as well turn out as an error from my side , but only if you can point me towards the error and and how to fix it it would be really helpful

Describe the bug My computer is running macOS 12.5 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U CPU. I was previously using an older version of NootedRed (around June 2023) and everything was working fine. However, after updating to the latest version, I encountered a problem. When I enable the -v option and run the code, the boot logo appears on the screen, but it gets stuck there and cannot enter the login screen. To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior: 1. 2. After finish the install appears the Next line:

While testing for hardware acceleration using the VDADecoderChecker

Expected behavior
Hardware acceleration is fully supported

Describe the bug
The system boots with the internal display dysfunctional. Upon inspection of the kernel dmesg, it is clear that the issue is that the link training failed.

Display turns off then back on, with the Apple logo visible on screen.

Mendocino is not mentioned in https://nootinc.github.io/nred#igpu-compatibility. Is there support for Mendocino in NR?
