titanic's Issues

Update Participant Materials

The participant materials will need to be updated for:
[ ] Morning and
[ ] Afternoon
Workshops. The necessary materials are:

Login: Fall2016R
Password: RTrain2016*

Vector Visualization

I need to think through how to represent / introduce the vector.

  • I need to move the visualization.

Simplify examples by calling data frame column names, not index name.

The irony here is that I rarely, in my own work, use the actual index name. Yeah. Kinda funny actually.

  • I think this mostly applies to regression stuff, but it probably slides in elsewhere. By eliminating the OR and RR code, I reduce some of this in the regressions workshop.

ratios.r -> ratios.R

The file ratios.r in the regressions workshop needs to be renamed to ratios.R . . . . or just deleted. I don't think it really worked all that well.

Or I could move it somewhere else . . . . like an extensions page or something.

Improve the graphing grapnics

Ironic.

Workshop: regression
Files:

  • Any file with a graphic. Really, this applies to both the linear and logistic examples.

Improve the linear regression tutorial

  • Replace the Titanic example with a tutorial based on the Anscombe Quartet.
  • Write a real linear regression slide show.
  • Move the linear regression section to the beginning of the regression (afternoon) workshop.

Only The Second . . . . . . DOH!

OK, this is embarassing.

The LAST SLIDE of the linear regressions slide-deck contains a terrible typo. It says:

"only the second" when it should clearly say "only the first"

Menu is broken.

Just check into this on Windows. I can't seem to reproduce on Linux.

Improve documentation for rm().

Workshop: Introduction
Files:

  • data.frames.R
  • data.frames.html

This workshop introduces rm() but it could be improved.
[ ] The slide/code should reference the broom icon in RStudio
[ ] Include code to delete everything rm(list=ls())

Eliminate the Odds Ratio / Risks Ratio code

This didn't really fit in very well. Might be better to remove the independent file . . . . or move it to the morning?

I should leave in the bit that shows how to move from the logistic regression to the OR via exponentiation.

Slide Error

In the "about" presentation for the intro workshop, there is something wrong with slide 1.

Add Equivalent SAS code

I think this is most relevant for:

  • Introduction, vectors
  • Introduction, data.frames
  • Regression, all

It would be nice to have accompanying SAS code.

Add intructions to the website on installing R/RStudio

It would be nice to have a page, with instructions for installing R/RStudio on the website. In fact, it would be nice to have this to send to the last batch of participants on Monday when I send them the request to complete the survey.

Logistic Regression Rewrite

  • New data set with NO missings.
  • Move imputation code examples to a new workshop/module.
  • Simplify the logistic regression model examples.
  • Work through step by step SLIDES for LR.

Improve create png example

Workshop: Regression
Files:

  • linear.R
  • linear.html

Add details for participants about exporting the png file using RStudio.

Include the TITR Fliers somewhere.

I've got the Word file I use as a flier. I should include it on the gh-pages branch somewhere. Doesn't have to be on the site formally, just make it accessible.

Develop The Next Workshop

The next workshop, will be focuses on programming R:

  • functions,
  • packages,
  • data management,
  • RMarkdown,
  • etc.

Will still be based on the Titanic data, but will go further structurally.

Exploratory Plots v Demo Plots

This was one of my other big FAILS of the day. In the graphical slide-deck, I'm still showing "exploratory plots", but I now want it to say demo plots, and link to the demo plots file.

Fortunately, the main page has a link to the file I wanted, but the slide deck should be correct.
