A tool for recording CLI programs and posting their output.

To install, first install node.js and then npm install -g rec.

Instructions

> rec

  Usage:  rec [options] command [args...]

  Options:

    -m --msgpack     Output MsgPack format (default)
    -j --json        Output JSON format
    -g --gzip        Gzip output
    -p --play        Play back a recording
    -q --quiet       Suppress message at end
    --name=filename  File to save to (default is 'out')

Record a Terminalcast

> rec my program

Play Back a Terminalcast

> rec --play rec.msgpack

Auto Upload to web service as option

Once #2 is complete, add an option to auto-upload to the service using some local user config. Then output the url instead of the filename of the recording.

Emulate full TTY

Instead of using child_process, use pty.js and record resize events. This will make interactive programs behave much better and allow recording with custom and even changing sizes.

Implement web-based viewer

It would be great if there was a webpage that could play these.

Maybe change the file format to allow streaming.

Right now the format doesn't stream, but it could be changed easy enough to allow this. It just needs some form of message framing instead of being one massive array.

This will allow for long recordings as well as live-streamed sessions.
