capra-public's Issues

Get the Twitter account going

This is kind of low on the actual "hacking" content, but we have a Twitter account registered:
https://twitter.com/cucapra

It needs some love. I can give you the password, and you can update the metadata, make few first tweets, link to it from the homepage, follow some important people, and distribute instructions to let other people in the group use the account.

Separate current research projects from old ones

The public page has descriptions for some (seemingly) inactive projects. In the hopes of getting undergrad researchers an accurate picture of the research projects that are currently active we can have two research sections, one for the "active" projects and one for the "inactive/finished" ones.

Use a template function to sort alums

The current alum sorting logic is a bit weird and relies on an unnecessary sort field which defines the degree with which an alum graduated. There, the order in the file determines how people are printed out on the webpage and is currently sorted by year.

A better solution would be to use a custom function which is passed into the template and used directly. That way, we could get rid of the sort field and automatically sort by degree & year.

A tool to convert posts from an RSS feed into links for the Capra news feed

The Capra site has a "news feed" thing that can link to blog posts hosted elsewhere. Currently, one has to create these news updates manually. It would be awesome to be able to automatically create them based on posts in an RSS feed, or perhaps in HTML metadata on a post page.

This would take the form of a CLI tool that, given the URL to an RSS feed or a particular post, generates a new text file with a link to the post.
