latex-lab's Issues

*.tex Default to LaTeX-Lab

It appears that I may only submit an issue and not request a feature or
"enhancement". Nonetheless, would it be possible to make LaTeX lab the
default application for *.tex files instead of the Google Document editor?

Tabbing in documents

I copied over a document to LaTeX-Lab to see how it compiled. I then
attempted to change the formating of the document source by changing some
tabs. I could not tab more than once. Any subsequent tabs did not do anything.

I would expect to witness iterative tab stops. One after the other after
the other, et cetera.

My system version information is as follows:
LaTeX-Lab v2.0
Firefox v3.5.8
Linux Ubuntu v9.10

I will check Slackware v13.0 x86.64 when I get home. I am at class right
now and using my laptop.

Plus sign is not compiled correctly in mathematical expressions in Latex-lab ver 2.1

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Login to latex-lab
2. Create a simple document with an inline equation: $3 = 1 + 2$
3. Compile the code

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What I expect to see is "3 = 1 + 2". What I do see is "3 = 1 2".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Latex-lab ver 2.1, running in Mozilla Firefox ver 3.0.3 on Win XP.

Please provide any additional information below.

This is potentially GREAT product. I hope you can make it work!

Sincerely,
John Marohn

Offline use of Latex-lab with local Latex compiler

Describe the requested feature:

I know that the selection of a local latex compiler will be available very
soon, however, I'm wondering if it would be possible to use latex-lab
offline such as Google docs offline.

If it is possible, that would a be a real alternative instead of switching
between online and local Latex editor.

Thanks again for your great work.

Upload of .tex file in google docs

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Upload a .tex into google docs.
2. Attempt to open the document from latex-lab.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

After uploading the tex file, google docs does not recognize it as a text
document, hence does not set the type correctly. In result, latex-lab
cannot open it (no link is provided on the document name in the open
dialog). I suggest latex-lab should detect if a document name ends in .tex
and allow the user to open it in that case. The list of extensions should
potentially be extended with other TeX/LaTeX related ones.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Tried with Ubuntu Lucid, and Windows Vista.

VIM shortcuts and vim-latex support

Describe the requested feature:

I use vim to write my latex source code, with vim-latex, it is so fast to write
an
article with shortcuts and auto-complete instead of clicking buttons. I know
for a
lot of people, this would be a study curve, but I believe there are someones
out
there really want this feature.

Anyway, it is a very nice and promising project and thanks for the hard
working.

iPad and Mobile Support

I was looking forward to using this as a LaTeX solution on the iPad since I
doubt we will see
a TeX distribution on the App Store any time soon. I've found that it is
completely unusable
though. I imagine this is true of all mobile browsers. I haven't gotten to use
it on a desktop
yet, but I know it is completely unusable on mobile browsers. No editing, no
PDF output, etc.

I don't know how much of this can be improved on your end, but I'd really hope
to see
support for mobile browsers like Safari. I hear there is already issues with
Google Docs ob
mobile browsers too, so perhaps it's all on Google's end. I think the real
shining potential of
this is in it's possibility of mobility.

LaTeX Security

I'm working on a smiliar project but without Google stuff. I found no email
address or any other contact option to get in contact.
So I ask here:
Are there any security issues with LaTeX code? Did you made some special
filtering for commands that might be dangerous when executed on the server?

automatically put a copy of generated PDF in google docs, and keep its name unchanged so I can link to it.

Hi,

I'd like to use latexlab to make documents in PDF, but have the rendered PDF
automatically be
loaded into my google docs. This way I can like to them from existing webpages
such that
whenever I update the doc, it's automatically updated online.

Example: I use latex for my CV and I also post a PDF copy of it online.
Presently I rarely update
the online posting, so it falls out of date.

If I imported my CV to latexlabs and this feature were available, each time I
added a publication
or other update to my CV, I could recompile the PDF version that is stored in
google docs and it
would automatically be updated online.

Great job on latex-lab so far!

Compatibility with Google Drawing

Image inclusion is always a hassle with LaTeX. A good feature of a
Google-based compiler would be a streamlined image inclusion process for
images from Google Drawing.

A Fantastic related feature would be to allow Google Drawings to include
LaTeX code, which could be compiled and included in a LaTeX document to
have the same font style as the surrounding code.

save pdf to google docs

Pop-up blockers prevent the exported pdf's to be viewed. In Google Chrome
it doesn't even work when the pop-up blocker is disabled.
I think the exported pdf should directly be saved to the same google docs
directory where the source is located, which is the natural behavior.

No spellcheck

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Type misspelt word in latex-lab
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Firefox comes with inline spellcheck (red squiggly lines under spelling
mistakes). This functions on regular google.docs, but not in latex-lab
documents -- spelling errors are ignored.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Firefox 3.5, Ubuntu 9.10

Please provide any additional information below.

Latex-lab is a great tool for academics. It would be excellent to have some
form of spellchecking function -- whether the inline spellcheck offered by
firefox (which I appreciate is not entirely appropriate as it will see
latex code as spelling errors) or a spellcheck in the menu bar which parses
latex code and spellchecks what is not latex code (something akin to ispell
perhaps??)

Thankyou very much

PDF Latex

2. i revoked this access because i couldn't see my documents files on Latex-lab
3. i tried to gave latex-lab access again to my Docs account but there is

So, due to this access control issue, when i try to check my documents

problem following by this error.

PS. I've unchecked the option to convert files to Google docs files all for
all "new" uploaded files.

Allow auto-generation of bibliography using citation tags from a preprint server

I'd like to use \cite{XXX} where XXX is a keyword used in preprint servers like
SLAC spires or NASA
ADS, then have latex lab automatically go to those servers to get the citation
info in bibtex.

I already do something like this with slac spires, here's how:

% To cite something, use the standard \cite command and use as
% the argument either a SPIRES bibtex tag (\cite{Chang:2007xk})
% or simply the eprint number (new style: \cite{arXiv:1001.4811}
% or old style: \cite{astro-ph/0211637}).

% To generate a bibliography paste the entire document into an
% email and send it to [email protected] with subject
% "generate". If you want bibTeX use subject line "generate bibtex".
% Spires will return your email in a few second with the bibliography
% which you can paste back in. References will be in the proper order.

It'd be great if latex-labs could automate something like this - the academic
types like me would
love it.
   thanks!

Keep directory names in reference links

Describe the requested feature:

Perhaps, it would be better to use the directory name in the reference link.
For instance, if i have all my figures on the figures directory, i prefer

\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx} doesn't work.

The [pdftex] bit of this command causes latex-lab to be unable to compile
my document. (It doesn't open the PDF-document as usually)

If I remove the [pdftex] I can include images, but they are overlaying the
text.

The short version looks like this:

\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage{amsmath}
\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx}
\title{Kort repræsentation}
\date{}
\begin{document}

Google Spreadsheet Access

It would be VERY useful to be able to compile a LaTex document using text
definitions stored in a Google Spreadsheet.

You could just take any data/text stored in cell A1 of the referenced
spreadsheet as if it were LaTex text.

Google spreadsheet scripting could be used to prepare LaTex definitions
stored in that spreadsheet from Google Form data. Dynamic document
creation... :)
