transmission-vs's Issues

Completely Self-Contained Portable Mode?

Would it be possible to say, put the Transmission-vs folder from a USB stick, insert that stick on any Windows machine you want and run transmission-vs, and then have it download to the same folder so you can unmount the USB stick and take your files with you and not leave any trace (other than firewall prompts, etc) on the Windows machine you used?

I could see many people using transmission-vs that way or at least being able to have a separate torrent client on a Windows machine that could easily be used without any kind of installation whatsoever and keeping everything within 1 folder including the downloads.

Remove TRANSMISSION_WEB_HOME from environment variables when deleting service

Hi, I got this weird error after using transmission-vs and removing it so I can use the new Transmission 4.0.0 beta 3

  1. I removed the transmission-vs service per the instructions on the README and deleted the transmission-vs folder.
  2. Removed any app data that might have been left behind to be sure I got a clean install of 4.0.0 beta 3
  3. Installed Transmission 4.0.0 beta 3 to try the new web-UI and help test
  4. When I pressed Remote > Open web client on 4.0.0 beta 3, I get the following on my Firefox:
404: Not Found
C:\Transmission\web/index.html (The system cannot find the path specified.)

This is NOT where Transmission 4.0.0 beta 3 is installed, but rather, where I put my Transmission-vs folder, which also made a C:\Torrents folder.

Why is 4.0.0 beta 3 pointing to where I had the transmission-vs web-UI?

Is this a remnant somewhere stuck in the registry after installing transmission-vs as a service?

I am not able to connect to the web-UI on 4.0.0 beta 3 because of this.

Since it's pointing to where I had my transmission-vs folder, is this due to something transmission-vs left behind? Please advise.

Make this more user-friendly + give it a unique name

Hi, this project seems to be quite promising but there's 2 issues I see getting in the way of adoption.

  1. It needs to have a unique name. Yes, this seems unimportant but if you're doing something different, a unique name goes a long way in getting people to use it. Nothing flashy, but the same way cfpp2p has transmission-daemon-cygwin really makes it easier to find on google and differentiates it from the main project without going too far. Maybe call it transmission-service or transmission-vs or transmission-minimal or something like that.

  2. The project needs to become more user-friendly. Right now, the average user has no idea what to do with all those bat files. They will either ask you what they need to do or just give up, which won't help you get users. I suggest making this project as simple as possible. Perhaps you can have this run in a simple, open source installer with a simple UI? Reduce the number of bat files? Make the web-UI just work out of the box? You may not agree with any of these suggestions and I don't blame you, but overall, the advice I have is to make this project as simple to run as possible and anything you can do to streamline how a user would run this would really help your project.

I know this isn't a bug report but since there's no other issues, this can be a discussion to perhaps spur a way to take your project to another level.

Include Official Web-UI?

I'm not a big fan of Transmissionic because it's way too huge on a desktop web browser (it seems more suited for a small touchscreen than a full desktop browser with mouse) and I like the progress being made on 4.0's web-ui which is better adapted for desktop use. Any chance we can have the original web-ui included in the package? Or maybe even an easy way to switch between the original web-ui and transmissionic?

I can see a lot of people on Windows asking for the original web-ui since they are more likely to use the original web-ui than Transmissionic, which isn't very well-known in the Transmission community.

Transmissionic is already easy to download from their Github and place in the folder to replace the original web-ui but it's not that easy for Windows users to have to install Transmission, extract the web folder from the installation folder, uninstall the unnecessary and redundant Transmission installation...so in terms of making it easier for Windows users to access the original web-ui, please include the original web-ui somehow. Thanks.
