photogimp's Issues

Photogimp does not work

Followed carefully your Instruction.
Installed Gimp out of Flatpak started and cloased Gimp copied the folders but when i start Photogimp it shows the old GUI.

Kubuntu 21.10

PhotoGIMP 2020.1 does not function at all

I thought I'd try out PhotoGIMP and see how it is, so I downloaded the Flatpak version of GIMP from Flathub, downloaded the latest release of PhotoGIMP, and followed the install instructions.

First attempt resulted in the icon being changed but nothing else, and now I've just tried it again to no avail. I can't get the PhotoGIMP patch to work on my system.

I'm running Fedora 36, in case that matters
Am I doing something wrong or is this just broken?

Please export with "System language" as the interface setting

It seems like you made a snapshot of the configuration with the language set to English [en_US], which a minority of the world uses. It would be much better to export it with the System Language setting set so that it automatically starts up in whatever locale the user has their system set to, which for my case (and most English users around the world) will be English [en_GB].

Instructions on macOS when installed with Homebrew

Similar to here #4 but specifically for when Gimp is installed on macOS with Homebrew, which is a very common installer for Mac.

I tried finding where the config folder is but couldn't find it.. Does anyone know where I should look?

add screenshots

People will be more likely to try photogimp if they can see how it looks before installing it.

Modification of the splash photo

Modification of the splash photo

Hello. Beyond the functioning of PhotoGIMP, there is one thing that catches my eye, it is the photo of Isabella Mariana that I find unwelcome. This blue face, covered with red blood and gagged with a butterfly, there is even better of Isabella Mariana. I think that nowadays it is necessary to look after the image of the woman. But it is a simple remark or question of taste. Sorry for my bad english.

woman-s-face-1988681

Use system language instead of en_US

I think (language "en_US") in gimprc should be changed to (language "") to use system language (based on locale) instead of hardcoding English

New canvas does not center on MacOS

Hello,

I installed it on Mac, even though it's not officially supported, and I seem to have run into an error where whenever I open a new image canvas, the canvas is not centered as shown in the image. I am also not able to scroll the canvas down and had to zoom out and zoom in to really center the canvas.

Please fix it if possible.

We should team up - Do you want to include my GEGL Layer effects and other text styling filters in Gimpshop by default?

If you don't know who I am. I am a person who makes third party GEGL filters for Gimp that includes a layer effects system and more. I do this by rearranging basic GEGL operations inside C files. I don't really have any programming background. I think my filters would be really cool in GimpShop. What do you say? All I request is that you credit me.

Here is a sample of the GEGL Filters I made.

PhotoGIMP works using GIMP installation using deb ?

I see information about install PhotoGIMP in GIMP installed using snap.
I has GIMP installed using apt-get deb files and thus trying to figure where to replace the files from PhotoGIMP.zip in GIMP folders because not has folders in home folder that the information is saying to replace.
PhotoGIMP is compatible with GIMP installed using apt-get ?
Thanks for read and have an nice day.

Missing License

I notice that this plugin lacks any license. That makes things confusing, as for example, it may not be clear what the user's limits are on a fork of this or if someone is allowed to include this in a Linux distro.
I don't think it actually infringes on any Adobe copyright, as it doesn't use Adobe assets, just makes GIMP familiar to Photoshop users. An open source license would be nice. I just want to know what I can and cannot do with the repo.

Binary plugins

Some of the plug-ins are compiled binaries. I'd like to poke around at them, but don't see any source files?

Second extra icon in dock (plank) when running it

I have one issue, not really an issue, an inconvenience. I use Gimp 2.10.22; and when it's ran, it shows a second icon in the dock (I use Plank)?? One is authentic and the other is grey next to it. Is this a gui bug or a useful feature for whatever? Please see the screenshot below:

P.S. Thanks for the pack! Very useful and I appreciate for your time and efforts for free community.

Warning regarding the fonts

Originally (months ago) I didn't install the fonts, but now I've taken a closer look at them.

1000+ of the 1800+ fonts received a "handle with care" warning, and dozen received a "do not use" warning.

In the best case, the fonts can slow down GIMP a lot, in the worst case they can cause GIMP to crash.

By the way, here are three sources for free, modern, high quality fonts, most of which can be used commercially as well:

[BUG] Resynthesizer not work on Windows

When I was installing on Windows I tried to use the resynthesizer plugin but it did not work. I got an error message. However, I'm opening this issue to post the solution that can be useful for those who are having the same problem.

The solution

Install the windows version of resynthesizer from this link:

  1. https://github.com/pixlsus/registry.gimp.org_static/blob/master/registry.gimp.org/files/Resynthesizer_v1.0-i686.zip
  2. Copy all files that are inside the Resynthesizer_v1.0-i686\Resynthesizer_v1.0-i686 folder into your C:/Users/YOUR_USER/AppData/Roaming/GIMP/2.10
  3. Restart GIMP
    It should work now

Photogimp opens, but whitout any fonts and then crashes

image
after trying to install photogimp for a long time, i was finally able to install it using Snap, the icon appeared at the menu of KDE and when I opened it, it was the loading screen of Photogimp, but what should be text was just these white boxes, after loading, photogimp crashes, can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance.

Font permissions

It seems like another issue that's cropping up is when the folders are attempted to be copied into the home directory, it throws errors for a few font files with a Permission Denied error. It turns out that there are some font files which don't have the same permissions as all the other font files, so this needs to be fixed. These problematic font files seem to have permissions of 444, but they should be 664 instead.

Hi team,

I tried to install your patch on gimp, it doesn't work.
The PhotoGIMP desktop icon is there and I can start gimp with it,
but I don't see any result in the GUI. If you look in these pictures, what is the photoshop element?

Also, easy fastbuttons like Ctrl +, Ctrl- are not working.
quick export to png, I don't see it.
The buttons are grouped different.
How do I recognize that the PhotoGIMP gui is working?
No display comes up after starting GIMP.

Thanks for your time.

Dirk.

Installing on Windows 10

I just try to copy in to the especified directory C:/Users/YOUR_USER/AppData/Roaming/GIMP/2.10 but nothing happens, I trying removing the dot (.) on the folders and no luck, any idea what I making wrong?

Portable install

Hi,

Thanks for making this project, i had the same problem coming from photoshop so this makes sense, also it's cool that you can do something like this.

One small thing tho, i can understand why you would want to bundle it with things like snap and flatpak but why not offer a portable version as well?

Some of us use a custom built linux and don't want all the fancy stuff...

After looking at the release files i could see that simply copying the ./config/gimp/VER folder to replace my own in my install would be enough, so this is what i did.

Could you add instructions or a release for a clean version one can just apply on their own distro?

Plans for a new version in PhotoGIMP 2022 [avlye]

I created a separate branch in PhotoGIMP to slowly solve these problems without compromising the current project.
All approved changes will eventually be merged into the master.

In this repository I also plan to update the list of available plugins, sources, improve the availability of documentation and installation.
So far I focused on cleaning cached Gimp files inside the project and make it easier to modify the theme as a Gimp Dark Theme extension.

Currently its structure is designed to facilitate the copying of files and extraction for installation on Linux.
And despite the workarounds found, this makes it difficult to package other versions.

First this repository will focus on flatpak packaging. Then we should make the project available via Flathub through the Diolinux/Flathub repository. For those interested in helping with this I suggest we start working on the manifest file.

This also new issues for questions of which fonts and plugins will be included by default. Which ones are optional?
New splash art will also be required for this version.

Remember, the project is designed to be available on the major platforms that the Gimp is available on.
The unexpected popularity of the project to the general public also created the need to make the project easily accessible.

P.S.: avlye is a word that describes something undefined. It can be renamed and it is not related to the version name of PhotoGIMP.

G'MIC-qt for GIMP doesn't work with PhotoGIMP

I've tried several different ways of installing the G'MIC plugin for PhotoGIMP, but sadly non of them worked. Iv'e tried also installing it on the classic GIMP, and there it worked. What is this issue? (I got PhotoGIMP installed via snap).
Thanks for the awesome job Diolinux!

Ctrl+J Doesn't Duplicate Layer

In windows 10 with Gimp 2.10.20 and PhotoGimp 1.0 (10/07/20) when I use Ctrl+J doesnt make a Dupplicate layer as Photoshop. just a new empty layer .

I don't know if gimp doesn't have an equivalent and that it's why it doesn't work or maybe are other reasons.

well, that thing is not working as you say ...

at least no on my computer, neither the flatpack method nor the copy method for normal gimp installation
furthermore I think it is a good idea not overwriting what already exist and let your history file at home because it is full with what you opened on your pc ... the gvfs uid files are also not a good idea to have in a package, last but not least you need to provide an uninstall procedure to get that things out again because it is not even near to what you describe ...

I have tried on 2.10.20 flatpack and on 2.10.18 ubuntu repo package

Add a horizontally dockable 'Tool options' dialog

Please add a horizontally dockable 'Tool options' dialog to PhotoGIMP. Which will make GIMP to look more like photoshop and improve usability. Krita has horizontal 'Tool options' from the beginning. But GIMP still doesn't integrate this feature which is a missed opportunity.

Boa noite, tudo bom?

Fiz tudo como solicitado por vocês na instalação, mas não funcionou.

O icone e nome modificaram, mas nada alem disso. A splash screen continua a do GIMP e o design do app também. Sabem porque pode ser isso?
