warning: Charset "UTF-8Content-Transfer-Encoding:" is not a portable encoding name.
Turns out, those \n after the header lines were actually used by gettext:msgmerge

Double quotes are not escaped
Double quotes in strings needs to be escaped, e.g. tTo delete please type "${variable}" #modal``, or the .pot file will be screwed up:

Unable to parse the spread operator when used inside an object.
E.g.
