It could be a good place to try & get the 2 cameras to meet up rather than set them off from. Possibly start 1 at the Library & 1 at the Cathedral

Good news that we can test Fomocam at the Invisible wind Factory on 30th April!

They are a bit pricey but we could get one for trips abroad.

Currently the cameras don't have particularly friendly names (fomocam1, fomocam2..)
Any suggestions for something a bit more engaging?

2. Assembling Pi, Camera, Modem, power pack & Neopixals
3. How to cut the box & assemble
4. How to write the code to the SD card
5. Advice on soft coverings etc

Appendix on problems we encountered

Nice to have it ready for Makerfest with lots of pictures.

Amend python files to reduce capture and upload interval to 30 seconds.
Extra marks: Look at offsets to stagger the images across all cameras

I think you need something that:

• Looks like a camera (so it’s really obvious which direction to point it in)
• Looks like a creature with a face (so people look after it)
• Feels comfortable to hold (so people hold it)

Extra points if it lights up, or otherwise attracts attention to itself, so people notice it on the night.

None of these are quite right, but hopefully you can take bits from each (“this one looks a bit like a camera” … “this one is really cute” … “this one is furry”) as inspiration for FOMOcam.

If a mobile data board for the Raspberry Pi is proving expensive, could we instead assign each FOMOcam with a human "minder" who broadcasts a wifi hotspot for the FOMOcam to connect to?

Minders would need a phone, a sim card with sufficient data allowance and tethering enabled, and a spare USB battery pack, probably!!

Make a label for the cameras that makes the instructions more obvious.
Include text from back of camera and web address.

Needs to be fairly durable so more than card. What fabrics etch well? Leather?

Before we make any firm decisions on how to get the data out we can set up a local test. To check the hardware and see what we get from the battery pack. Then we can start looking at what we use to get the data out, and where we send it. I'll aim to have this run at Maker Night so we can get a time lapse of an evening in the workshop.
