eddy's Issues

App Payment

Hey,

I couldn't find a way to contact you.

You should really suggest a $1 or more donation for Eddy. Everytime I install it, I think, "I wish I could donate to this project."

email me at [email protected]

Also, @h4ck3r9 on Mastodon

Cannot build, 'Could NOT find Vala (missing: VALA_EXECUTABLE)'

During the build process I cannot pass make ... I get the following:

ross@thinky:~/eddy/build$ cmake ..
CMake Error at /usr/share/cmake-3.5/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:148 (message):
Could NOT find Vala (missing: VALA_EXECUTABLE)
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  /usr/share/cmake-3.5/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:388 (_FPHSA_FAILURE_MESSAGE)

  src/CMakeLists.txt:1 (find_package)

See also "/home/ross/eddy/build/CMakeFiles/CMakeOutput.log"

Unfortunately I can't make much sense of that log.

How can I install it on other debian based distros?

Dear Dev,

I was wondering how can I install this app on my other debian based distro,
The only way I can think of is installing appcenter to those distros.
Can you create an Appimage or .deb file for it?

Sorry if you have already created one ,I was not able to find one.

Error upon upgrading with deb file

I'm not sure if this is upgrade only, but it seems recently I have been receiving similar errors as the one below. However, the installation does succeed despite the error. I can get you more info if needed

Error while installing package: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/app-info/yaml/pantheon_xenial-main_amd64.yml.gz', which is also in package appstream-data-pantheon 0.3.0-0~14~ubuntu0.4.1.1

Optimize checking Downloads folder

As soon as we detect there is a supported package in Downloads folder, we should show the option to load packages from the Downloads folder.

Missing POTFILES inside po directory

I was trying to compile a new translation but I get the error saying that the file POTFILES is missing in the po directory. Am I suppose to generate it first?

Add "System" category

I think it would be appropriate for Eddy to appear under the "System" category :)

back button

After selecting 'Load from downloads' there is no button to go back to the home screen and you need to close the application!

Unable to overwrite existing package

Update same packages when operation done

If there are more than 1 package with the same package ID, we should update the state of other ones in the list, so they don't show incorrect state. This is already in the code but it is commented out since this doesn't work well with sorting the list due to infinite row changed () loop.

Show if Download folder is empty.

Presently the progress spinner is shown indefinitely when the downloads folder is empty.
Shouldn't it show some kind of alert to show that the download directory is empty?
Screenshots attached below.

Can't uninstall installed apps

There's not an option to uninstall installed apps with Eddy. Since they don't appear at AppCenter, the only way is to use the terminal, and this can be a little scary to new users.

Add appdata to be translated

Translating appdata.xml file will help people to know about your app in the AppCenter. For example mostly French users won't download the app if it's description is in English, 'cause they will think that the app isn't translated and won't take time to read if its not translated.

Small layout issue when description field wraps

When the description field wraps, this causes it to get shifted to the right for no apparently reason, which makes it to no longer align with the package name below.

screenshot from 2019-01-31 14-25-46

Thanks for the useful tool and sorry for nagging about such a small issue. The overall nice design of Elementary is likely making a thing like this stand out more than it usually does. :-)

(I wish Elementary would use a smaller dropshadow when taking a screenshot...)

Adding translations not working

see #22 , I tried adding translated strings to nl.po, I see changes in the file at /usr/local/share/locale-langpack/nl/LC_MESSAGES/com.github.donadigo.eddy.mo . When running the application i do not see the translated strings. I could be doing it wrong.

Doesn't work on Elementary Juno beta1

2018-07-04 20-58-35

Today(2018.07.04/Korea), Released Elementary OS Juno beta1.
and I installed it and eddy, but not opened this app.

so, i use terminal with

com.github.donadigo.eddy

that will show Settings schema 'com.github.donadigo.eddy' is not installed.

I think you must update debian package installation script.

p.s // sorry my bad english.

Not enough contrast on the window title

The background on the window title is red while the text is black, so the text becomes hard to see. The text could be changed to white or the background changed to a lighter color.

Installed Apps Log

when you install apps, you have the uninstall button at the rigth, but when you close the window, you don't have how to uninstall the application.
Maybe would be a good idea have a log of previously installed apps, this way we can uninstall apps at any time

No feedback when PackageKit is busy

If I try to install a .deb via any method while PackageKit is busy doing something else (i.e. AppCenter is running updates), there's no feedback in Eddy, and it doesn't queue up the installation.

Snap or flatpack package

Hi, what do you think about Snap and Flatpack? It should be easy to install without problems.

Name.deb is not a package.

So, I am having some weird issues with Eddy, in that no matter what I do, I cannot use it to install any debs whatsoever.

eddy
eddy2

Does not show additional installation instructions

I just installed a package provided by the Belgian government to make use of an eID reader. At first I installed it using Eddy but things did not work. So I reinstalled it manually and noticed the following message after installation completed (two last lines):

sudo dpkg -i eid-archive_2018.2_all.deb
[sudo] password for myself:
Selecting previously unselected package eid-archive.
(Reading database ... 347695 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack eid-archive_2018.2_all.deb ...
Unpacking eid-archive (2018.2) ...
Setting up eid-archive (2018.2) ...
Repository enabled, keys installed. Please run "apt-get update" followed by
"apt-get install eid-mw eid-viewer" to install the middleware and the viewer, respectively.

It would be nice if Eddy could show such a message to avoid confusion.

I got a similar situation installing DraftSight a while ago. There is a prompt in the middle of the installation process and installation fails using Eddy.

Warnings about Debian control file

AppCenter Dashboard found some issues with your debian/control file. While we will continue
to try to build your project, we recommend you take a look and fix these
problems for next time.

  • Package is not valid reverse domain name scheme

Affects: 0.9.2 release

Show progress in detail view

It would be great to see the actual progress of the installation (the same text as shown during installation in the terminal) when clicking on the package being installed. Right now it only shows details of the package (which is awesome).

No option to update installed deb-packages

There is no option to update installed packages.

For example: I've atom-editor v1.16 installed on my machine and I want to install v1.17 from the website.
If I open the atom.deb with eddy the only option I get is to uninstall atom-editor.
Gdebi would update or overwrite the installed package with the new version.

Does not close with Ctrl-Q | Ctrol-W

Or meta-Q, or Escape, etc. I don't know if the keys are part of the ElementaryOS UX guidelines, but I'm used to close apps with keyboard. Gnome has these behavior in its guidelines.

Invalid Desktop file

AppCenter Dashboard ran desktop-file-validate on your project's .desktop file and received the following errors:

repository/data/com.github.donadigo.eddy.desktop: hint: value "GTK;Utility;System;" for key "Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" contains more than one main category; application might appear more than once in the application menu
repository/data/com.github.donadigo.eddy.desktop: error: value "package;apt;dpkg;install" for locale string list key "Keywords" in group "Desktop Entry" does not have a semicolon (';') as trailing character

For more information, see the Desktop Entry Specification

Affects: 0.9.2 release

Progress bars not synced correctly

While using Eddy in elementaryOS 0.4.1, I noticed that the progress bar in the dock and the progress bar in the window did not show the same progress. This was kind of confusing because I didn't know which progress bar was right.
