I'm experimenting with Pantheon Mail on Arch Linux and it builds fine, but when I try to run it, I get the following error (as you can see, I've installed under ~/.local):

By default emails are grouped in threads/conversations. Deleting one mail in the thread is not possible. I would like to be able to turn this off, so display emails as separate items in the folder. And also be able to delete individual emails.

Think this is the plan, but right now Mail only uses its internal database of known emails for suggestions. Instead, we should tap into EDS to get email addresses it knows about as well.

When you enter a wrong e-mail account in your online account settings, the mail when you open it infinitely increases the width unless you close it. It was resolved by deleting the wrong account, but it should have a definitive solution.

When use two mail account whith custom html signature, after reboot OS, patheon mail forget html signature. Verifying geary.ini, i see the file has been reseted.

If the "Always watch for new mail" setting is not turned ON by default in the Mail app settings, there are no mail notifications received. This thus goes against the expected behaviour of an user who has just started using the Mail app.

Mail seems to crash when reading some emails. This one is from an Uber receipt email:

In Mail there should be an one-click way to archive an email. (or move it to a customized folder)

Every once in a while Mail goes crazy and it keeps stretching infinitely.

I know this is a known issue. The only way I can solve this is by reseting the settings from dconf

dconf reset -f /org/pantheon/mail/

Since there haven't been many commits to Geary's codebase in the recent months, and since you're targeting other distros as well, it might make sense to provide a Flatpak.

One could probably reuse parts of Geary's build manifest and I tried creating a new one for Pantheon Mail, but it failed due to #8.

Google does not allow Gmail users to use Mail because it is "an app that may put your account at risk".

This is a common issue among many mail clients I have tried, and I don't know for sure if it is a real security concern, but I would like to use Mail with my Gmail account.

I know that I can enable a feature on my account settings page that allows me to sign in with less secure apps, but I would really prefer not to do this.

The "Suggest Translation" button is pointing to the wrong link. This error has several applications.

My email account has several folders in it, and right now the only way to modify these folders is from the web UI; if Mail supported creating, renaming, and removing folders I'd have very little reason to open the web client.

The below circles should be a "2" and a "4" respectively, but they are obscured. I'm not sure what is causing this, but it makes for a not very great experience. This problem exists across multiple themes according to coworkers. Not sure if this problem exists in any other software, I have not yet observed it.

IMAP Folders are displayed as "Labels". While this might work for gmail accounts it violates POLA for old fashioned IMAP accounts. Moreover assigning a label to an IMAP mail does not move the mail to that label.

All in all I vouch for displaying IMAP folders as folders.

When I started Mail after enabling 2FA on my Google account I was asked to fill in my password, but it won't let me in. Instead it prompt for my password again.

Secondly, I can't disconnected that account from Mail because the app closes when cancel the login modal.

webkitgtk-3.0 has been considered deprecated and insecure for some time. It even has already been removed from the repositories that will become fedora 27 (for a reasoning, see 1). This prevents me from building pantheon-mail for fedora, and could be considered a security risk even on elementaryOS.

geary has already been ported to webkit2gtk-4.0 (see the upstream commit 2). Maybe some of the work done there can be reused for pantheon-mail.

The alert dialog's buttons do not express that "OK" opens the message in mail immediately, and "Cancel" clears the dialog without opening the message.

Sorry to make more work for the translators, but these buttons should say something like "Read now" and "Read later".

Opening the Mail app after adding an email account from Switchboard Settings > Online Accounts still shows the authentication dialog. The app still works even if the said dialog is ignored and closed.

Had both geary and pantheon-mail installed at the same time. pantheon-mail was also built directly from source. Not sure what caused this issue, but when I first ran pantheon-mail the width of the window was huge and the GUI sluggish. Went through the code to see what caused it. This is what I get:

Sadly I'm unable to use Mail program from Elementary OS, as the IMAP mail server
account I'm using does not have any domain name in its username.

A couple of days ago, Mail prompted me for the password to one of my Gmail accounts. I have two-factor authentication set up for all my Gmail accounts, so I used a one-time generated app password for Mail. Just as a precaution, I decided to remove all three of my Gmail accounts and re-add them, using new app passwords.

This morning, Mail once again asked for my password, for two different accounts. As they were generated a few days ago, I no longer have access to them. After hitting "Cancel", those particular Gmail accounts were removed from my Inboxes.

I'm not sure how to go about figuring out why Mail has forgotten my passwords. Both accounts that were removed this morning had been sending and receiving mail just fine in this past few days.

Currently if mail gets an authentication error from the server a dialog pops up asking for a new password.

Expected

If an authentication error occures, an action toast with a button to account settings should appear. This avoids spamming the user with dialogs if something bad happens, and provides a nicer user experience.

Here is what I am talking about:

The Settings dialog, even if extended to full screen length doesn't show all the settings. Dragging the window upwards using the mouse doesn't work either (in this case, its the email signature and stuff below it).

This issue happens when you have added an account through Switchboard Settings > Online Accounts.
The issue doesn't happen if the account is added via the Mail app itself

which doesn't feel very nice.

Actual behavior

A dialog is displayed when pressing either ctrl, alt, or shift key after deleting emails completely.

Expected behavior

This dialog should not be displayed.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

1. Delete one or some emails completely by pressing Shift+Delete
2. A dialog is displayed which confirm whether delete emails completely. Then, select "Yes" and delete the mails
3. After that, a dialog is displayed again when pressing either ctrl, alt, or shift key

Sometimes there are a few emails in a thread that should be deleted without deleting the whole thread. In Gmail, this is handled with an option in the singular email's upper-right corner (options menu) wherein the individual email can be deleted. Something to add to Mail's wishlist?

When building an HTML mail, I can use an image as an attached file, but I cannot insert it in the mail body, along with the text.

Neither can I save in my computer, nor download, an embedded image when someone sends me an e-mail with an image inside the mail body.

Feature request: display forwarded status of an (IMAP) mail, like in Thunderbird and Mac Mail

I can't right click on it in the outbox, there's nothing in the hamburger menu in the mail view, clicking the error text doesn't do anything, right now I just copy paste the contents to a new reply and that feels dumb.

I have always wished for POP3 to be supported. I do not want any interaction with my mail server besides grabbing the mail and then not keeping it on the server.

This is what POP3 allows. Hopefully it will be supported sometime soon.

There have been a lot of commits to the upstream geary repo since the fork and maybe there could be a way to somehow merge these improvements / rebase pantheon-mail on a recent version of geary since pantheon-mail is now using git again.
Unfortunately, the git to bzr to git conversion seems to have messed up the commit hashes (e.g. compare this to this). Anyway, this seems to be a larger task.

FastMail, Gmail, and Inbox have this rad feature where starred (in both their parlance, "pinned") emails can bubble to the top of the email list. I've been using this extensively and it'd be great to get that into Mail.

@snwh pointed out that Inbox also has this feature, also called "pinning", but it uses the same mechanism as starring under the hood.

In terms of metaphorizing this behaviour, I'd be more inclined to call it "pinning" and drop the whole stars thing from Mail. Pinning implies (to me) something more immovable –e.g. a pinned Tweet or social media post at the top of your feed. - @snwh

Quite annoying because there is no way to the delete them mail, the app has crashed before you get a chance.
