Now I agree that there is no description on the main page but I'll try to explain here:
This project is a special indicator that adds a compatibility with indicators named "ayatana" that were made for Ubuntu with older, more restrictive features. This special indicator never shows, all it does is check if there are any of those "legacy" indicators and adds them to the panel so you can use indicators like e.g Skype. That's why all bugs regarding all the custom indicators go here because this project is responsible for displaying them properly.
This is the case since we made our own API that allows more rich UI's in the indicators themselves.
