wingpanel-indicator-bluetooth's Issues

The bluetoot is all bugged.

The bluetoot is all bugged.
When turning off the bluetooth while logged in, trying to reconnect will no longer power on.
Being logged in by turning bluetooth off and rebooting the system, it will activate again. When turning off bluetooth on the login screen and logged in, when restarting the service bluettoth does not start, the icon disappears from the bar and in system settings.

Use rfkill to enable bluetooth

For some reason my notebook gets into a state where Bluetooth cannot be enabled through the indicator. The solution is to use rfkill to unblock bluetooth. We should make sure this can be done through the indicator and not just through Terminal

doesn't compile successfully against granite+wingpanel git master

I've not been able to pinpoint the issue directly, digging through the commit logs hasn't turned up anything useful. But, the latest release fails to build against git master versions of granite and wingpanel, with this error message:

Compilation failed: 1 error(s), 1 warning(s)

Is it possible the bluetooth indicator is still using things that were deprecated/removed in granite or wingpanel? If it helps, the nightly build on July 9 succeeded, but the build today (August 19) failed, and there were no code changes in this project at all (except the release today).

Bluetooth auto enable on screen lock

Each time you manually have to disable Bluetooth after login back from screen lock.

Step to reproduce:

Login > Disable Bluetooth > Click on shutdown icon > Select "lock"

This will automatically enable Bluetooth and each time after login back from lock, have to again disable Bluetooth.

Adding Silesian translation file

Hi, could you add translation files for Silesian?

ISO 639-3: szl

Thank you!

There is no notification for the bleutooth receiving files.

When sending photo from mobile phone to the PC via Bluetooth there is no any notification for the permission of receiving files so the send file fails. However, sending from the PC to the mobile phone, i.e the opposite direction, it works fine. This is also applicable with pairing the two devices.

Bluetooth turns off time to time

I am using a bluetooth mouse. After some time (more or less 30 minutes) bluetooth turns off and I should turn on and pair the mouse again.

Sometimes even the wing panel icon disappear and I have to go to settings, where it looks like in the attachement. and turn on off and on combination to get it work again.

It's started like one month ago more or less. (elementaryOS loki 0.4)

Set A2DP as default mode for Bluetooth audio

When you connect a BT headset it usually connects first to HSP/HFP mode and then you have to switch to A2DP mode. To make A2DP work you need to do a lot of juggling (disconnecting, reconecting switching profiles...), so why don't just set A2DP as default?

I don't know if many people uses HSP but it sounds so bad so I don't think many people would want to use it. That's why I think this could be a good idea.

A more extreme idea would be removing HSP/HFP but I don't think you would like that idea.. I wouldn't mind if you remove it, though ;)

Bluetooth indicator does not change

When I turn on bluetooth on the indicator panel, the indicator doesn't change.

Information about my system:

Notebook Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15API
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: elementary
Description: elementary OS 5.1.2 Hera
Release: 5.1.2
Codename: hera
Linux 5.3.0-28-generic

Bluetooth auto enable on screen lock

When turning off Bluetooth and then ending the user session, on the user login screen bluetooth still shows as active, when deactivating Bluetooth on the user login screen and restarting the system, Bluetooth returns to show as active on the screen Login. When you log on to the system, Bluetooth starts to crash.

I believe that because of the logic problem in the programming of the Bluetooth shutdown, being logged in or in the login screen, it is conflicting and consequently causing error in Bluetooth.

Lock session when device is out of range

Lewis brought up the idea of locking the session when a bluetooth device disconnects. This would mean that for example walking away from the computer should lock the screen.

I think that we would need to do some kind of roundtripping and not just watch for a disconnect to make sure we're getting a good idea of proximity.

There is no icon displayed for the Logi R500.
screenshot from 2019-01-31 01 41 17

A somewhat related issue is that is looks like there is no placeholder icon and the layout is kind of broken.

Show file recieve toggle in indicator

There should be a toggle for activating the file recieve feature from the sharing plug in the bluetooth indicator.

I would argue the "discover devices" entry is not used often enough that users would need a shortcut to it, since the use case of bluetooth is, generally, that you have a small set of personal devices that you would use with it. Thus, this toggle can be added in its place.

Prompt to connect Bluetooth input devices when no input devices exist

Currently in all Linux distributions I know, there is no way of connecting a bluetooth mouse without another mouse. macOS shows a window where you can do this as it's very first thing when you set up a new Mac that has no mouse connected (like a mac mini or iMac).

I think this app would be perfect to do something similar. Would add a lot to the UX polish.

Unfortunately I can't find a screenshot for this and currently don't have access to a stationary Mac, but from what I remember the dialog was very simple. It definitely wasn't the full bluetooth prefpane. It just said something along the lines "There is no mouse connected. Connect a wired mouse or put your Bluetooth mouse into pairing mode". It would then auto pair and connect any mouse that it found and I believe it would even automatically close the dialog.

Vertically center the icons

The icon of the linked device isn't centered vertically, and as the icons doesn't have all the same shape/size it looks quite ugly especially when you hover it...

Bluetooth indicator dissapears after suspension

As the title says, the indicator dissapears after suspension, but if I click between network and battery I can see it's dropdwon and it works as it's supposed to. At least to me, it doesn't dissapear from settings pane as other issue said.

I don't know if it's useful, but the laptop is a HP 240 G7 with a RTL8723DE chip.

Colapsed window shows no devices

This is what the window looks like after clicking the bluetooth icon and then "Discover Devices...", no devices are shown, because the window is too small and it seems as there are no devices.

b1

After stretching the window it looks like this:

b2

Initiating the window with another size would solve this problem.

bluetooth disabled after suspend

Always after suspending my laptop bluetooth gets disabled and I have to activate it via wingpanel, so my bluetooth mouse gets connected.

No issues with bluetooth itself, besides it beeing switched off every time.

newly included screenshot is erroneously installed to /usr/lib*/wingpanel

The CMake files need to be adapted, because right now, everything in data/* is installed indiscriminately by glob:

# Files
file (GLOB resources "${CMAKE_CURRENT_SOURCE_DIR}/data/*")
install (FILES ${resources} DESTINATION ${PKGDATADIR})

Since the new screenshot is the only "resource" in this case, those 3 lines can just be dropped, I think.

Bluetooth disappears after one or more system suspend

I have this problem from the start of using elementary os & recently I noticed that on every system suspend, bluetooth icon moves towards battery indicator icon and after one or more supsend It disappears completely. The bluetooth is on & works correctly. If you look at the screenshots that I took from my screen you see the difference in space, between bluetooth & battery icons.

Bluetooth is crashing

Since the elementary OS update of May, when I try to pair a new device via Bluetooth it's just crashing. Here are the steps:

I turn the Bluetooth on,
I turn my device on,
Bluetooth indicator and plug are crashing until I turn my device off.

It seems to crash at the moment it detects a new device, very strange. But I can't use Bluetooth anymore because of this. Any idea?

Devices list frequently incorrect

Prerequisites

  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates.

Describe the bug

The list of devices in the bluetooth indicator is freqently incorrect.
Comparison of list in indicator with settings for example:
Screenshot from 2020-04-16 10-12-47@2x
Screenshot from 2020-04-16 18-39-03@2x

To Reproduce

I'm afraid this is unclear. It happens over time.

  1. Have some paired bluetooth deviced.
  2. Open indicator
  3. Execute both or eather one of these commands:
    • sudo modprobe -r btusb && sudo modprobe btusb
    • sudo service bluetooth restart
  4. Reopen indicator

I think it would be interesting to compare the logic in the indicator vs the settings and see if there are mistakes in the indicator.

Expected behavior

The list of devices in the indicator is consistent with the list of devices in the bluetooth settings.

Actual behavior

The list of devices in the indicator contains lots of duplicates.

Note that even when keeping the bluetooth settings open there are no duplicates there.
Note that something similar happens in the bluetooth settings when executing restarting the bluetooth serve (sudo service bluetooth restart).

Bluetooth re-enables when waking up

In Juno, Bluetooth re-enables itself when the computer wakes up from "suspend mode". It stays disabled if restarting the computer, but if you suspend the session and open it back up, Bluetooth is enabled again.

Critical error logged on machines without bluetooth

Prerequisites

  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates.

Describe the bug

When I run wingpanel via the console, "CRITICAL" errors are logged. They look like this:

** (wingpanel:8112): CRITICAL **: 11:20:47.565: Manager.vala:58: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.bluez: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.TimedOut: Failed to activate service 'org.bluez': timed out (service_start_timeout=25000ms)

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. On a machine that doesn't have bluetooth enabled, run wingpanel via the CLI.
  2. Wait for 25s, see CRITICAL logs in the console

To run wingpanel from the CLI, do the following:

  • Run killall wingpanel twice (this disables the auto-restart)
  • Run wingpanel

Expected behavior

This looks like it should be a debug log, not all machines do have bluetooth capabilities.

Logs

Update CI process for wingpanel-indicator-bluetooth to include a vala-lint step.

Bluetooth icon disapeared.

Issue elementary/wingpanel#64 is solved and closed but I have still same problem. It disappears after waking from suspend. If I use killall winganel command, it fixes bluetooth icon.
