Hey there!
I was noticing that the font (at least from Google Fonts) is missing this glyph "ə" called "schwa" that nowadays is used in Italian language for gender neutral words: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C6%8F
Would be a nice add :)
While reviewing this I found an error in the style-linking.
The SemiBold Regular and the SemiBold Italic are in two different style groups.
They should be in the same style group. (nameID 1)
This means when SemiBold is being used, and the Italic button is pressed, it will not link to the actual SemiBold Italic font - it will be faked italic.
SemiBold Regular nameID 1 = Figtree SemiBold
SemiBold Italic nameID 1 = Figtree Semibold
So the Italic nameID 1 needs to match the Regular.
The lowercase eth in the tyepface needs a rework, on this site you can find a guide on how to do it:

Hey @emmamarichal, question for you. My intention was to have the bold weight be a bit lighter than (internal) 700. Here's the axis mappings as they stand:
To me, it appears like they're backwards. I want to map 700 (external) to 660 (internal). But it looks like instead, I'm mapping 700 (internal) to 660 (external), giving me an even thicker bold than I desired. Is that indeed what's going on here? Thanks!
When using Light and applying bold to it in MS Office PowerPoint some letters look weird, e.g y and e. Some strokes are thick and others are thin. Is this a bug or what can we do to prevent this?
The '₹' rupee symbol that was added in v2.0.1 isn't working anymore in the latest 2.0.3 version
I could totally be missing it, but I'm not seeing the Regular Italic .woff2 version in the webfonts folder.
It would be great to have a stylistic set (CSS font-feature-settings
) that adds a hook to the lowercase l to differentiate it from the uppercase I. Having the two characters look the same is ok in some contexts but confusing in others, so it would be great to toggle a flag to be able to differentiate them.
There are five consonants with circumflexes that are missing to make it complete!
Is it possible to create and implement cyrillic languages support?
I was looking at an SVG that had a dynamic font and noticed that the "ffi" letters in "traffic" were rendered in a completely different font.
Does Figtree support ligatures and if it doesn't, can it support the usual "fi" and "fl" letter groups?
.glyphspackage
is a format designed for version control and it's easier to isolate merge conflicts with vs. the traditional .glyphs
file format. Perhaps the source files could be saved in this format to make it easier to work with?
Auto conversion back to .glyphs
can be done by going to File > Save As... or by using this tool: https://github.com/florianpircher/glyphspack (just in case legacy build tools can't work with .glyphspackage
. )

Hi Erik,
Can you please update the glyphs definition file to allow the use of the slashed zero glyph(zero.ss02 and zero.tf.ss02)?
I started playing with Figtree using the variable version. I quickly noticed that there are rendering issues, at least in some characters. I would see a tiny bump that would vanish when I zoomed in. It looked like a quality issue so I nearly gave up. Because the font is an excellent replacement for Avenir Next though, I decided to compare the result to the non-variable version. As you can see in the screenshot below, it renders differently.
The variable version is on the left, the normal version on the right.
Notice the additional antialiasing pixels at the top? They don't exist in the non-variable version.
I'm not sure if this is a problem inherent to variable fonts that I was unaware of or if something can be done about it.
I encourage you to differentiate this from Product Sans and Google Sans, so that it could become available in Google Fonts :)
Hello,
When using diacritics in Google Docs or MS Office, the diacritics do not appear to be displayed properly, and some letters having diacritics become smaller in x-height. Diacritics render just fine in Adobe softwares. I'm not sure if there is anything that can be done with the font rendering, or if it is an issue with Google/Microsoft that is out of the font designer's control. Thank you kindly for your time and attention.

After downloading the code (great font btw!) I looked through the folders to see if there was a variable webfont version and couldn't find it.
I can see a Figtree.woff2 loading in the specimen site, would it be possible to make that available here as well please?
Or if I'm just not seeing something, please point me in the right direction :)
The disambiguation stylistic set includes a lowercase l
with a tail. It would be great to have this as a standalone stylistic set (like the single-storey a
) because I sometimes want to use it without having the other unambiguous characters (like the slashed zero).
Will google fonts eventually add a CDN link for this or is that on the author to set up?
I took it for a spin and it looks like the keming is weird in the word "żółty" (yellow). To my eye, the letter "ł" is too close to neighboring letters, especially compared to the distance between "ż" and "ó".
Hey!
I noticed that the italic version of the font only had the single-storey a, whereas the normal version has this 'a' in its stylistic sets.
It's quite strange to see these 'a's change when you switch to italic.
Love the font. Thank you. Noticed that the capital G has a protrusion on the right side. Seen on zooming in. Would be great if this could be fixed. Attached here an image of the protrusion! The G in image is Figtree Extra Bold. The protrusion is seen in Medium, SemiBold, Bold, ExtraBold and Black. It may still be present in Light and Regular but difficult to see(?). I am using the ttf font from Google Fonts page. Any thoughts, comments, advice?
For Manifold Markets, which uses Figtree 🙂
I love this font family and use it as my daily sans-serif in Brave, particularly the new italic which is a real improvement!
Can I request Greek language support, at least the monotonic glyphs? Perhaps polytonic in the future if there's demand for it.
The moment we say this font, immediately fall in love with it. We think it's one of the best font that Google as ever had. In terms of ascenders, decenders, line height and font weights its balance and looks beautiful. Great work Erik.
We have a small request, if you can add an Indian rupee symbol to it. This solves our lots of issues which is resisting us to use this family as our daily driver in India.
Currently, both the static and the variable fonts have the same name. This leads to Font Book on macOS and other applications (e.g., Figma) not recognising them as different fonts and unexpected results when using Figtree.
I suggest giving the variable fonts a different name such as “Figtree Variable” or “Figtree V”.
The german quotion mark („) has just one line, while it should have two.
Are there any plans to add ligatures? It's such a nice font, but "ff" is soooo far apart.
It would be great if there would be an alternative style of those quotation marks with the traditional hooks on them other than the current geometric ones. (And perhaps a squared ones too like those of Gotham?)
P.S. I am using the font for my personal Front-end Developer portfolio currently in the layout process.
Thank you
Having flat and sharp symbols for using with chord keys (e.g. Bb, F#) would be a great addition.
Much appreciated!
