worry-dolls's Introduction

Virtual Worry Dolls

When I was young, I was quite a worrier -- and still am, actually. Anyway, my parents gave me a set of worry dolls to see if they would help me.

There has been a lot of focus on mental health lately, and I wanted to create an app that could help fellow worriers.

I hope to be able to make this a place where people can smile, journal a bit about their worries, and leave the site feeling a little lighter.

Contributions greatly welcomed!

Getting Started

Fork or clone this project. If you use VS Code, you can click on index.html in the left navigation and select 'Open with live server'.

TODO:

  • Make worry doll assets
  • Page designs
  • Functionality to tell a different worry to each doll.
  • Save the worries in something more permanent than session storage.
  • An animation of putting a pillow on top of the dolls when the user is done telling their worries.
  • List of mental health resources, in case users could use more help.
  • Any other ideas?

worry-dolls's Issues

Add inputs

We need inputs for users to journal their worries.

Education

I think it would very informative to have a section or page that goes into greater detail about the history and use of worry dolls.

Add Sections and Navigation

Add a navigation bar with links to sections - Home, Tell your worries, History and Mental health resources.

Add ability to save worries

We need a way for users to save their worries. The easiest ways would probably be to use session or local storage. But if anyone feels like creating a back-end to use, that would be great, too.

Pillow animation

To make this experience more like what real people do with worry dolls, it would be neat/cute/awesome to have a pillow animation when users are done telling their worries to their dolls.

Design

I could definitely use more input into what this site should look like -- wireframes, colors, Google fonts, etc.

Add worry dolls assets

We need graphics of individual worry dolls. We could also use more free-to-use images of worry dolls.

SEO improvements

We need favicons, and meta tags in head (og-image, etc.) It would also be neat to have social sharing icons for users to easily share this site on their social media platforms.

Mental Health Resources

I think it would be very helpful to have a section that has links to mental health resources, for users who are looking for more ways to improve their mental health.
