switch-linux's Issues

Screen sometimes don't power on

When (re)booting, there's a 1/4 probability that the screen won't power on. I know that the system is running because I'm able to connect to its SSH server.

Documentation Not building

I get the following for both pdf and html documentation generation:

 warfield/switch-linux $ make htmldocs

SPHINX  htmldocs --> file:///home/warfield/switch-linux/Documentation/output
make[2]: Nothing to be done for 'html'.
Running Sphinx v1.7.6

Extension error:
Could not import extension kerneldoc (exception: cannot import name Directive)
make[1]: *** [Documentation/Makefile:68: htmldocs] Error 2
make: *** [Makefile:1511: htmldocs] Error 2

Black Screen after sending the kernel via imx usb

On three different computers I attempted to upload the kernel and while Fusée Gelée works, with this, I can upload coreboot and then uboot, and uboot is detected by lsusb, the kernel after being sent still gives a black screen as if the LCD isn't started.
Image.gz
Image.gz is my kernel build.

How to log in?

I tried plugging in a keyboard through the USB-C port but the Switch doesn't recognize it. Is there any way to type currently without taking over the right joycon I/O?

Battery calibration issues after running Linux

For starters, my apologies if this isn't the correct place to report this. Myself and others seem to be experiencing random shutdowns in games after running Linux when the battery gets to ~<50%. These shutdowns start happening on the home menu at ~<25%. At this point the switch won't turn on again without attaching a charger. Remaining on the home menu, turning the brightness all the way down, disabling sleep mode, setting the volume all the way down and enabling airplane mode appears to allow the switch to drain further. Although at ~<10% the shutdowns begin again.

Apparently pulling the battery and holding the power button for 15 seconds has addressed this for some people. Others have also suggested draining the battery to 0% and then charging it back up to 100% has worked, however very few have reported success after doing this, and those that did appear to have a different issue.

Ability to rotate the display without Xorg (framebuffer with GBM/KMS)

There is currently no way to rotate the fb0 framebuffer (used with GBM/KMS).

  • echo 3 > /sys/class/graphics/fb0/rotate flickers the screen but doesn't actually do anything
  • fbcon is however correctly rotated, as you already know
  • our application (RetroArch) sees a framebuffer of 720x1280px
  • fbset (of busybox 1.25.1) gives :
    • a 720x1280px screen instead of 1280x720px
    • all timings are set to 0
    • fbset can't be used to change the resolution because of an ioctl issue
    • however, fbset seems to be outdated - see this issue
