This is the design i've in mind for ncursesFMpp:

Here, SYSLINE and TABS are same as ncursesFM.
Below TABS, there will be a "select modalities line", where modalities are { BROWSE mode (default); FM mode (to select/paste/delete ecc ecc); PLACES (devices + bookmarks + trash); ...}.
There is no INFO/ERROR line; these 2 lines will be overcome by a new modalities: "Notifications" where INFO and ERRORS will be listed.

I'm still not sure about asking questions; btw i'll try to reduce the number of questions asked; i already planned to remove all "are you sure?" questions as in default browse mode you won't be able to casually delete some files or whatever: you must switch into FM mode before doing any damage.

To change modalities i planned to use "TAB" + "Number of modality", eg: TAB and then 2 will switch to FM mod for currently active fm tab.
Or, better still, tab will raise ModalitiesPanel and then user can select a modality with arrow left/right + enter.

Current modality for current tab will be highlighted (in yellow may be?); Notifications will be colored when present (eg: number of notifications in green / red if any error happened).
