TransitionWrapper is only used to be able to get a ref that ReactDOM.findDOMNode can use. Use Object.prototype.isPrototypeOf to check that a given ReactElement is inherited from those classes

When the React version is <16, TransitionWrapper should not attempt to render multiple children at once as that's invalid. It should render the children wrapped in a div and provide an optional component prop to override the component.

Use React.version to detect the version

Classes are lingering on rendered DOM nodes when a transition state is interrupted, due to the onAfter[event] callbacks not being called to clean up those classes

Using JS hooks on top of auto-css transitions may cause issues with callbacks, add a prop to disable auto-css transition end detection.

The getters this.childRef and this.oldChildRef are lazily-evaluated in callbacks that manipulate DOM. Rapid transitions can sometimes cause those getters to evaluate to null when they really shouldn't have. Inside a transition the DOM element that a callback is manipulating should always be the same, so they can be passed in as a parameter so it's safely stored without being nullified.

Cancel callbacks are currently only called when timeouts exist for a certain transition event, but those timeouts are only set when duration or auto CSS is used.

The cancel callbacks should be refactored to accommodate for JS-only transition hooks (a component is receiving another child to render before done callback is called in onAppear, onEnter and onLeave)
