password-exporter's Issues

Update version

Can you please update the app to Firefox version 4.09bpre

cheers

Password Exporter lost all passwords

After todays update it lost ALL passwords... I had couple hundreds of them there and every single one is gone now. Using Firefox 38.0.1. :( 👎

Can't Import saved passwords from XML if the"user"area is on the Russian language

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; ru; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12

First of all I want to thank Justin Scott for his really important for me addon : )»

I use the Password Exporter about 2 years but today when I attempted to Import my saved passwords from XML I got an error.
P.S. I exported my saved passwords in XML and I did't encrypted them
After opening XML file in Notepad I noticed that some area got strange simbols:

http://pastebin.com/FFVr1HX0

In both cases user need to be "Анатолий К." and FireFox insert login and password correctly.
These 2 sites I've added recently and after deleting this 2 lines and saving file all passwords were imported from XML CORRECTLY!
Thanks!

Issue with character in Win-1250 code page

Hello. I found that password exporter has a problem when it tries to export or import strings with characters coded in win-1250 (polish, mideast europe) code page. For example, word "hasło" is exported to csv or xml as "hasBo". After importing that word, I must manually change it in firefox.
Second example: if I even try to correct this in csv or xml to "hasło", after importing I get "has3o" (3 in upper index is a typical representation of win-1250 of "ł" when editor treats this letter not as 1250 cp but iso-8952-2). I think that password exporter is not Wincp-1250 friendly. In this example I still has to correct it manually from FF.

Second issue concerns importing password saved in csv format. When usernameField is empty when exporting, pe won't import this entry. and will say that usernameField is empty. When PE exports to xml format it still leaves it as usernameField="" but it doesn't have any problem when importing from xml. This is less meaning but it still exist.

Best regards

No passwords with " in them allowed

I am using a password generator (from KeePass) to change my passwords. In some hard cases, the web site will not save my passwords and I have to fill in them manually to export file. But if KeePass has generated a password with the character " in it this is not possible. And it is annoying that the import can only be done via .csv file, .xml files will produce an error.

Password-Exporter Firefox Add-on

Is there an ongoing project to propagate Password Exporter into the new versions of Firefox (4.0-7, Aurora)?

It's a great tool, and I wouldn't want to see it left behind.

Can't import passwords if user field contains Chinese characters

Similar to issue #8, if the "user" field of some of the entries contain Chinese characters, neither the XML nor CSV file could be imported. It is successful after deleting those entries.

I notice that locale is supported in Change Log. Not sure whether there is any setting I overlooked. Any idea?

I am using Password Exporter 1.2.1, and Firefox 6.0.

not encrypt but encode

the "Obfuscate Usernames/Passwords" checkbox results in a base64 password and username encoding. It's better to use Encode instead Encrypt in translation field, to ensure the meaning after translation stayes the same

Password Characters Incorrectly Saved

This app is awful!

It saves password characters "&" and "%" as "%26" and "%25" respectively.

Firefox 38.0 and Password Exporter 1.3.1.1-signed.

Horrible, thank God I checked.

Can't Read - Odd Format

I can't read the output when I export my Firefox 18 passwords. Isn't there an easy-to-read format that world work better? I didn't have a choice of export formats, or I missed something.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Imported passwords not recognized by websites

I amusing FF 27.0.1 and P-E 1.2.1. I recently exported my passwords, and then imported them (successfully as I can see all the details) after I cleaned up my FF cookies, cache and history. However, when I go to the websites on which they are used, FF does not see them....and I have to re-enter my user name and password. None of my UN or PW exist in websites I access in FF.

Could you please advise what I have done wrong? Or forgotten to do?

Increase Seamonkey compatibility version number

The extension seems to work fine until Seamonkey 2.7.1 at least. Please increase Seamonkey's compatibility version number from 2.1b1 to something more recent, to allow installation without "tricks" (e.g. manipulation the install.rdf file)
Thanks.

Failed to import just-created XML file

  • Firefox 47.0.1
  • Password Exporter 1.3.2
  • Arch Linux

I've exported the password store into a plain-text XML file, then purged the password store and tried to re-import, which failed with "XML parsing error. Passwords could not be imported." message.

Impossible to export nor import any password with Firefox using Password Exporter

I am using the French version of Firefox 33.0 and just installed Password Exporter. When I click Outils>Options>Sécurité>Importer/Exporter-les-mots-de-passe puis sur "Importer les mots de passe" ou "Exporter les mots de passe", absolutely nothing happens. Same thing when I do Outils>Modules complémentaires>Password Exporter>Options...

I copy above the diagnostic you asked for :

locks up on import

Export works fine, but after selecting the .csv file to import it locks up. It grays out as if it's importing, but nothing happens. I tried reducing the list from 266 items down to 20 in case it was a size issue, didn't help. Also tried leaving it for a few hours, came back was still locked up.
Created a new profile w/only this addon in case of conflicts, still didn't work.
Please advise, what can I do to fix this/get it working? Even the Cancel Import button doesn't work, I have to End Task on firefox each time.
Thanks

No CSV option. Import of XML file did not work.

There's no place in the Options Security to export passwords.

There's no option for CSV export.

Doing an XML export appears to work in the sense that it gives no error message, but the file is empty

Upon importing a just made export in XML format, (which is actually an empty file) I get an error message about a problem parsing.

No passwords were imported.

can't download anything

V 1.3.1.1, and FF 44.0.2
when I try to download, following either instructions path, all I get is a small pop-up box with the title "import/export passwords" and a cancel button.
Nothing else, and nothing happens.
Restart etc. does not change anything.
Please help - thanks,

Stores identical login credentials

Version 1.2 suffers from following bug with FF3.5.10+:
It stores identical (!) login credentials/ records/ entries, even though it should not: So, after exporting and importing passwords following error message occurs for each identical entry:
"('This login already exists.' when calling method: [nsILoginManager::addLogin])".

Empty usernamefield error on import

Hello

I have exported my passwords to a CSV file. Then I have tryed to import this file (without any changings) to another Firefox profile. I got several errors there.. the tool cannot import 14 of 155 passwords because of empty usernamefield.

The problem is the following:

Many saved passwords don't need a usernamefield because the webpage comes with just a password field (for example: my netgear router & emule). In other cases (for example: FireFTP) there is no need for usernamefield (and other fields).

FireFTP is a Firefox extension. It is a powerfull FTP client which works as a Firefox tab. It saves just hostname, username, password and "FireFTP" as formsubmiturl.

All these saved passwords are working very well while using Firefox all the time. And they are working if I copy the Firefox password files (key3.db & signons.sqlite) from one profile to another.

Normally it would be enough to copy the files.. but I have to different profiles on two different computers.. and I have to merge the files. This would work for me.. if there wouldn't be the errors..

Could you fix this maybe? Or do you have any ideas for a workaround?

Greetings

PS: Great extension. Helped me a lot switching from Opera to Firefox some years ago!

Windows 7

None of my password were imported

Export worked fine (at least I think so). When I try to import a message window pops up saying there was an error with the CSV/XML file. Same issue had already happened before but at that time I thought it was because I was trying to import from a windows version of PE/Firefox to a Mac system. Now I want to import from a Mac to another Mac, both running the same OS (Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and same Firefox version, too.

Can't export in CSV only XML

Why does it say you can export to XML or CSV? Ther eis only one "Export Passwords" button, there is no setting to select CSV. The export is in XML every time. There is no help or documentation on this.

Not Working with Firefox Portable 33.0.2 - OK with Firefox Portable ESR 31.2.0

Try It! ....there is a problem....Passport Exporter 1.2.1 does work OK with the installed version of Firefox 33.0.2, but does NOT work with Firefox Portable 33.0.2. Switching to Firefox Portable ESR 31.2.0 solves problem, but it would be nice to be able to use the latest version.

Extension bypasses master password

Having a master password set, the export process doesn't require it to access the saved data.

Firefox 46.0b2
Debian stretch

I'd say this is a Firefox security issue, not a bug in the extension, but I'd prefer to confirm with you before reporting there.

Does not work. No choice of XML/CSV. Makes a zero byte XML file.

There's no place in the Options Security to export passwords.

There's no option for CSV export.

Doing an XML export appears to work in the sense that it gives no error message, but the file is empty

Upon importing a just made export in XML format, (which is actually an empty file) I get an error message about a problem parsing.

No passwords were exported.

The last time it worked was in March of 2015.

I just noticed that there are two dots in the filename before xml in all the failed export zero byte files. The ones that worked, March 2015 and prior, have only one dot (period) in the name.

That's without me touching the filename field at all.
This is with Firefox 45.

Master Password should be asked each time passwords are exported

Password Exporter 1.2

(I am just an interested user, not a developer. If this is not the correct venue to post, please direct me to one. I tried to re-open the topic at Mozillazine (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=616507&p=9305165#p9305165) and could not find an entry point on the blog: http://blog.fligtar.com/2008/01/05/password-exporter-11/)

I strongly feel that the Password-Exporter should prompt for the Master Password each time passwords are exported, as it is the case when passwords are viewed.

I understand that this is not a bug, but an improvement request, but I do think that is is urgent.

I understand that the Password-Exporter reads the state of the Software Security Device to find out if the user is logged in or not and uses that to determine if it is safe to export the passwords. However many (most?) users will never get through to the tools/options/advanced/security devices/ path or understand this setting.

Most users will, if they have set a master password, just assume that the add-on's behaviour will be like the one they are familiar with at the tools/options/security/passwords path. Using that path they know that they will be prompted for the master password each time they request to view their passwords.

A less-than-astute-user (like me) could easily leave his computer unattended not being aware that at some earlier time in the session he logged onto the master security device and that the add-on he installed could be used without further prompting.

For example I am often prompted for my master password at start-up - probably because of one of the toolbars - and until just recently I thought that was the normal behavior of the master password setting! Until I first used the password exporter and began to learn more I was not aware that once I logged into the Software Security Device I remain logged in for the entire session and that I should fix the problem of being prompted for my master password at start-up.

Thank you for taking the time to construct the add-on. It is exactly what I needed to get a task done. I am just concerned that it could be misused.

missing file extention

it would be usefull to add the file extention .xml or .csv to an exported password file

Doesn't import any password

Hi,

I use Password Exporter version 1.2.1, export of passwords works well but the import no. I am using Firefox 21.0.

Thanks

Can't save password

I use Password-Exporter 1.2.1 (within Firefox 19 and Win7 pro, SP1). It opens the dialogue box, but when pressing "export passwords", nothing happens. What can I do to have this very much liked feature back to normal?

Export password string error

The string 'D&c' within a password was exported as 'D%26c'. Same error in both export formats. Password-exporter 1.2.1, Firefox version 23.01, OS WinXP Home Edition 2002 SP 3.

FF 38 No longer able to access Exporter through Tools--> Options, must to got addons entry it self.

FF seems to have done an auto update on me even though all update options are off.

Instead of Options opening a window, it now opens as a web page - about:preferences#security

Unlike old Options window, there are now no buttons for Password Exporter in the tools menu. You must now go to Addons and click the Options button for Exporter to export or import passwords.

Can you put an entry in Tools--> Options as before or must I use Exporter via the Addons page.

CSV Import Format

Could you please provide the formatting required to properly import a CSV.

Some of us are exporting from various programs and need to re-arrange or remove some rows from the CSV, it seems.

Thanks.

Passwords are not saved when logging into Windows Live Messenger

than I imported this xml with password-exporter , but it changed < httpRealm="Proxy" > to < httpRealm="moz-proxy://91.208.228.51:8080" > , so it makes me paste login(user) and password manually :(

But than I pasted login(user) and password , it's saved < httpRealm="Proxy" >

Corrupts passwords by inserting URI-encoded entities

Using the password exported to CSV from another device I found the account would report "Bad username or Password" when trying to log-in. Initially I thought I was mistyping the password repeatedly. Eventually, I checked back with Firefox's "Show Passwords" and found that the exported password contains an ampersand, which the exported string had URI-encoded to %26. I had been typing the literal "%26".

I can understand why URI-encoding would be used for the double-quote character since it is the text-delimiter in CSV string fields.

I don't think it's the best approach to export URI-encoded without some indicator that the string is URI-encoded. I'd suggested prefixing any field that requires URI-encoding with "uri-encoded:".

During export it is easy to determine if the field requires URI-encoding simply by doing a strchr() style search for the double-quote. All other characters should not be encoded.
