Expected behavior

The name should always be shown as 李小龍 (i.e. surname first, first name second). There should be no spaces or commas between the characters.

Contacts app does not recognize Chinese names and displays them as Western names like:

小龍 李 (name first, incorrect)
or
李, 小龍 (surname first, but there's comma and space between surname and first name)

Describe the bug
I am moving this issue over from SMT Contacts #1059, as I am now able to reproduce it consistently. The app will crash when saving a contact after adding a photo, then it is not able to open again. The issue seems to happen only with specific high-res photos. I'm not able to tell if it's due to the resolution, the file size, number of colors, or any other property.

I didn't want to experiment before in order to not lose my contacts, but since that app is no longer maintained, I will have to move on and recreate them. I haven't been able to access my contacts since November, so I wanted to test this issue first before committing to the new app.

To Reproduce
(From a fresh installation)

1. Don't allow access to contacts permission
2. Tap the + icon to add a contact
3. Tap the camera icon to add a photo
4. Pick the "Choose photo" option (example photos below)
5. Use Fossify Gallery or Fossify File Manager to pick a photo
6. Complete action using Fossify Gallery
7. In the Editor, tap on the "Free" option to use the entire photo
8. Tap on the check mark to finish editing
9. Tap on the check mark to finish adding a contact

The app should immediately crash now. It will also keep crashing when attempting to open it. You can still access the settings from the App Info menu in the phone's settings via "Additional settings in the app", but certain options won't work. For example, enabling backups will crash. I tried to use that to salvage contacts from the old SMT app, but to no avail.

Example photos that cause a crash

1. I searched for a review of someone who has the same phone (Samsung Galaxy A52), and used the first example photo of theirs.
2. I also created a 4624x3468 image of random noise, and that also crashes the app.

Example photos that DO NOT cause a crash

1. I created a plain black 4624x3468 image in an image editor and saved it as a PNG and a JPG. Neither caused a crash.
2. I took a picture with my phone using the same settings as the one that was causing a crash, only this time I covered the lens to create a plain black image. This photo did not crash the app.
3. I tested to see if a higher resolution photo would cause a crash, using this picture (6720x4480 direct link), but that did not cause a crash.
4. I converted that same picture to PNG, in order to test if it was a file size issue. It created a 36 MB image, and that did not crash the app either.

Expected behavior
The app should allow you to set any photo to a contact that you've taken with your phone, especially when in conjunction with Fossify Gallery, using any of the Editor features. If the app should crash due to low memory, or some kind of corruption, the app should make some attempt to save your data. It could either unset the photo, or dump a backup of the contacts to the home directory where it can be accessed by non-rooted phones. I'm not sure if resolution is the issue, but if so, an alternate could be to warn the user before using a high-res photo, or to automatically resize the photo to something more desirable.

I would like to know if existing contacts are able to be saved after this issue occurs, or if it corrupts the app's storage somehow. I know that a pull request for a patch to SMT Contacts is out of scope, and would probably not be accepted, but I'd like some peace of mind to know if it really isn't possible to recover the old contacts.

When searching for something .... "á", word is found, but not highlighted. Same with "ř" etc. (sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesnt)

Feature description

When adding contact info from another app, such as an email client or phone dialer, Google Contacts has a button to instead add the info to an existing contact. I would like this feature in Fossify Contacts.

Why do you want this feature?

This is useful if you get mail from an organization using several addresses/phone numbers and you want them all to appear as known contacts in your apps, or if you have someone's phone number already and they send you an email (or vice versa).

Feature description

When I use the app(*), I always have to sift through countless random contacts. For these contacts (80%), I only store their number for when they call, but I almost never initiate the call. The remaining contacts (20%) is the people I actually call.

So, I suggest an option to hide a contact from the list so that their ID would show when they call but they don't clutter the list.

I don't see Favorites as an appropriate solution for this:

1. because your actual favorites (1%) drown among the 20%.
2. because of new numbers (it is much easier to hide a newly-created contact in the 20% than to go through the full 100% and open each one to check if you need to favorite them).

Why do you want this feature?

If you are a designer or a freelancer, you want to keep the contact details of previous clients (in case they call you), but you don't want a giant contacts list to sift through every time you try to call a friend or a current client.

Describe the bug
When editing an entry that has an associated entry for WhatsApp, I would end up with 2 separate entries (one with the edited info and the WhatsApp one containing the un-edited info). Not until I edit the WhatsApp entry again so that the info match that the 2 entries will be merged again.

To Reproduce

1. Change the first name of any entry that has an associated WhatsApp account and save
2. The contact list now show 2 entries, one with new first name and one with old first name
3. Edit the entry with old first name again to match the new first name
4. The contact list now show 1 entry which when viewed show the associated WhatsApp account.

Trying to import one of the daily automatically backed up .vcf file.
It fails every time.
I have tried other days backup, does not help.
If I export manually, that works as normal import.
(But that is not efficient enough)

So i have analyzed the manually and the automatically exported .vcf files.
Their data structures are Totally different.
Because the manual works I did not touch it.
Than I tried to clean/the automatic backed up one/ by allowing only 1 contact
(Without extra infos for example: address; email etc.) and that failed too so based on this
the automatically exported files must be broken by default.

Hello. I am unable to drag the app to my home screen for quick access. Im not 100% sure if this is an issue with the contacts app but since every other app Ive tried works fine, Im guessing it is? Pressing and holding brings up the app info and edit launcher dialogs and thats it. Usually I can also drag it to my home screen. Im currently using Neo Launcher if that matters.

Add the Custom Ringtone Field in Fossify Contacts App
Select a ringtone from phone's default list of ring tone OR from Ringtone Folder (Path=/Storage/emulated/0/Ringtones/". Custom ringtone audio file type is MP3.
Storage is Phone storage (not visible by other apps), hence contact is Private.

Expected behavior

Custom Ring Tone should be ringing when contact calling in.

Actual behavior

Custom Ring Tone is NOT ringing when contact calling in. Only default ringtone is ringing (Settings > Sound & Vibration > Phone Ringtone).

Right now default storage is set to last created contact storage. So if I'm saving to different storage or trying new saving storage its get stuck for next time I create new contact

Phone numbers looks bad and ugly. Currently, the phone numbers are just unformated strings of numbers, for example 555555555555.

They should instead look like (555) 555-5555-555, +1-212-555-0101, 555 555 5555 555 or +491631737743 etc.
Its going to vary from country to country. That should be the default and then you could change it in settings to another format.

At the moment there is only a single field for addresses. Therefore addresses are not synced correctly when also syncing with other clients like Thunderbird which have structured address field support.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add individual fields for the different address parts. Could be done as an option to support simple mode also for people who preferre this.

Describe alternatives you've considered
The different fields could be merged into one during sync. This would not improve editing behavior.

The example :
For the global contact list, I'd like to view all contact "friend" group, "family" group, but no contact from "medical" group.
This will be very usefull to have a filter for global list.

Maybe, another feature, assign a different ringtone according to a group.
I know that this feature is complicated if a contact is assigned to several groups, But not impossible. maybe just make a priority for goups ?

having recently switched from a very, very old Samsung device where the built in contacts app had exactly this feature, I am surprised no modern application offers it (as far as I know). your Contacts app is near perfect, but it would indeed be perfect if it's possible to code that!
