fossletters's Issues

Getting ready for Imagine RIT 2019

In order for this project to be ready for Imagine RIT 2019 the following things need to be completed:

  • Update the front end page with the new FOSS letters instead of the old MAGIC logo
  • Print the new Foss letters (currently printing)
  • Cut out the backs and acrylic fronts of the new letters
  • Write a blog post describing the changes made
  • re-wire the new letters with a single Fadecandy for all letters instead of 1 Facecandy for each letter.
  • Paint the new letters
  • confirm with SJ if we have a touch screen monitor to use on the table for the public to interact with
  • Test the new letters with the current code, or with Alok's updates

Instructions for setting up

There are no instructions for:

  • Compiling fadecandy server for non-ARM Linux
    • Inc. libraries required
  • Running fadecandy server
  • Running the letters web server

Add README to introduce project (with picture)

Summary

Add README to FOSS Letters repository on GitHub

Background

A README that explains what the project is, what it does, and how it works is useful. Adding a picture of the project in action is also useful so people can see what this project looks like in practical use.

This is important to add before Imagine RIT as I used a link to this repository for our Imagine RIT booth application and also for promoting the project more widely on social media / blog posts.

Details

Something that does the following is enough:

  • 4-5 sentences of what project is / how it works
  • Credits / attributions to those involved
  • What open source license is used for the project

Outcome

Someone can understand what this repo is when they navigate here or they are linked here on Imagine RIT website / FOSS@MAGIC website

Choose a license for project to make FOSSLetters open source before Imagine RIT

Summary

Choose a license to make this project open source (currently it falls under U.S. copyright law and is not open source)

Background

There needs to be a LICENSE.txt file at the root directory of the repository. Currently this project is unlicensed and is subject to U.S. copyright law since it was created in the United States.

Since we are promoting the project as open source at Imagine, it needs to choose a license.

Details

If you are not opinionated, choosealicense.com is a good resource so you can pick one and move on.

Outcome

Project will become free and open source software and adhere to a recognized open source license
