Fungal spores are an important biological airborne particulate worldwide, including in the Caribbean basin. Fungal spores are also a known potential inducer of episodes of allergic respiratory diseases, such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. Nevertheless, most studies have been performed in temperate regions. Less is known in the Caribbean basin. This repository contain website files for a multidisciplinary collaborations between scientists located in Spain, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the United States to provide further insights role of airborne fungal spores in the Caribbean basin.
Among the collaborators from this study are:
-
Dr. Michel Almaguer: Dr. Almaguer is an expert microbiologist, mycologist, aerobiologist, and faculty at the Department of Microbiology of the University of Havana, Cuba. He is one of the leaders in fungal and pollen aerobiology in Havana, Cuba and the Caribbean.

Dr. Benjamín Bolaños-Rosero: Dr. Bolaños-Rosero, former PhD mentor of Dr. Rivera-Mariani, is an expert mycologist, and faculty at the Department of Microbiology, School of Medicine of the University of Puerto Rico - Medical Sciences Campus. He is currently the director of the Puerto Rico Aeroallergen station (San Juan, PR), which is the only station in the Caribbean certified by and reports daily aeroallergen concentrations of pollen and fungal spores to the National Allergy Bureau of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology. Dr. Bolaños-Rosero's mycology expertise is well known in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, as well as internationally.
