Huh. Would you mind trying it again? I'm wondering if the Overpass API was temporarily down, because everything seems to be working fine now. I just tested it -- server responded as expected, without a hitch.

Yeah - that's what I was thinking too, but the problem seems to be on my side. Just tried again, same error.

Do you have it installed in a virtual env? If so can you post the full environment package list?

upon closer inspection, this is likely not an osmnx issue, but a proxy server issue on my end that is intercepting the request to the overpass api.
