Oh, and this is with Python 2.7.11 built through Homebrew.
The error looks like it's coming from somewhere further down in clFFT, maybe. I assume there is some way to hack the fft1d.c example from clFFT to make sure it tries to run on the CPU, but how exactly to do that is beyond me.

Hi Joseph,
the errors you experienced are indeed due to limitations of clFFT, which is made to run on a single GPU. I believe to remember it also worked with the CPU (at least for some transform sizes, on some platform, don't remember), but so slowly that it is useless for real work, only for testing/debugging.
