oodles's Introduction

rebooting after a hard, tired month...
I like to write software of questionable utility and varying weirdness.

My current objective is to finish1 some or the projects I already have started.

Thank you to the people, the sponsors, that give me some money every month to keep me motivated (and my VPS online and domains registered)

Footnotes

  1. "finish" to mean get somewhere I am happy with calling version 1; get them to a point i'd be happy to call "done" if i could let things rest โ†ฉ

oodles's Issues

Add a journal-update-a-thing

I really like the format described here. We can also support Atom/RSS. This can be a configurable feed that you can post to, only a subject line, as well as automatically post to when new oodle threads are created.

Minimum Viable Prototype

Only things that are left to do, anyway.

  • Ability to rename Oodles
  • Markdown! Or a subset thereof. With embedded HTML support, but normally escaping. Escape HTML unless it's in a code block with a language of "oodle-html" maybe?
  • Timezone things! Button to use javascript or just on page load? I asked twitter

axumify?

I think this is something I want. I was resistant to axum for no good reason, at first, but now it's nice and comfortable.

Logging

I've recently been exposed to logging that isn't just println! (lol) and I think I can see the appeal now, so, some logging would be nice.

Alternate OODLE layout

I want a single-line message layout for those really small thoughts or lists of things. I want this to be an alternate on-disk representation, too. something like

-= TItle =-

2022-09-30 17:50:02-0500 A single line
2022-09-31 17:50:02-0500 Linebreaks will be turned away as errors!
2022-09-32 17:50:02-0500 yes really. Also I know this date is invalid

Rethink Oodles

Oodles is useful, right, I use it fairly often. But there are pain points:

  • I really need to get media upload working
  • I want to be able to group Oodles by project or something, or
  • I talked about a tree-driven conversation format with someone before. Like twitter threads, right, where you can just branch off at any time on any message and continue on a different path. that would require a rethinking of how oodles are stored and manipulated.

Oodle Operations

/oodle

  • /oodle/create
  • /oodle/modify
  • /oodle/destroy

/oodle/message

  • /oodle/message/create
  • /oodle/message/modify
  • /oodle/message/destroy
