protonmail-webextension's Issues

"Body" tag ignored in mailto links

Hi gitladen7, I just found your very useful extension and I wonder if you have any plans to incorporate the "body" tag for mailto links.

For example

mailto:[email protected]?subject=this%20is%20a%20subject&body=test

Currently the extension seems to ignore the body tag.

My intended result is for this bookmarklet to copy the title into the subject and the URL to the body.

javascript:void(window.open("mailto:[email protected]?subject=" + encodeURIComponent(document.title) + "&body=" + encodeURIComponent(document.location)));

Keep getting "Session expired"

I mainly use the extension to allow the mailto: handler to work, so this isn't a huge issue for me. However, no matter what I do, the plugin shows "ERR" on the icon, and my account shows that the session has expired. I've tried using the beta and mail.protonmail.com but neither makes a difference. I'd be happy to provide more detailed feedback, but I've never debugged a Chrome extension, so . . .

Servers are unreachable error while using the extension

Hello gitladen7,

I found your extremely useful extension on Microsoft extension store yesterday and decided to download it. I have been facing a error inside ProtonMail beta where in I receive a an error that says Servers are unreachable. Retry now. even though I have a stable and fast internet speeds.
I also noticed that the last extension update was made way back in mid 2020 or something of that sort and remembered that a while ago I had a similar issue with an old extension from chrome store that I was using on edge due to its cross compatibility but suddenly stopped working, which is when I had contacted ProtonMail support and they had suggested me to disable extensions to see if that would help, and it indeed did help.

Is there any plans to update the extension to fix this issue anytime soon?

No longer auto logs in.

For some reason, the extension no longer logs in, even when I click on it and click on 'Open Protonmail', which is supposed to read the focused tab and auto login. bit it doesn't, and every time I click on that extension it keeps telling me to open proton mail and focus the tab to add the account. I tried uninstalling/removing the extension, I even tried it in incognito mode (allowed extension in incognito mode), and it just won't login anymore.

I'm using Windows 10 21H1 with Chrome Version 106.0.5249.103 (Official Build) (64-bit), I even tried it using MSEdge and still the same results. So now I have to use the Proton Mail bridge that they supply for use with MSOutlook/MS Mail.

It was working up until I noticed it not working 5 days ago.

Notifications not opening session

Notifications generated by ProtonMail lead to the web session when clicked, but notifications from the plugin dismiss with no action.

I'll disable notifications until this issue is solved; then I'll try them again and see if they work any better. (not a major problem except this kinda makes the notifications generated by the plugin kinda annoying and pointless)

mailto handler on Firefox 74

Using Firefox 74 on Windows 10, I can't seem to get the mailto handler to work. I've tried closing and opening the Protonmail tab to get the register popup to appear, and also looking in the Options menu to try to manually switch the handler. It doesn't seem to appear in the Options menu at all.

Is there any more information I can provide, or further things I can test?

No longer notifies of new emails.

Luckily I have a second notification email address which receives notifications from Proton Mail, otherwise I wouldn't know if I have any in my proton mail account, because even though the Chrome extension is logged in to my proton mail account as I see my email address when I click the extension icon, there's only 2 options in front of my proton mail address, and and they are autofill and 'Open Account Settings', above it are 3 more buttons and they are: 'Open Help, Fetch new mail, and Open Settings', pressing fetch new mail doesn't do anything.

At the time of writing this post, I have 1 unread email waiting in my proton mail account, and the extension is supposed to show that I have emails waiting, and a 'peek' button should be visible, even though I have the setting to use peek is enabled.

The attached screenshot shows my proton mail account settings for the extension, and before anybody says "try disabling all those extensions", I have, and I even tried the proton mail extension in incognito mode, and still nothing.

mailto only working till the inbox

No fill-in of the email and opening of a new message window.

The mailto handler just brings you to the Protonmail inbox, not opening a new message window and filling in the email.

Doesn't work with privacy.firstparty.isolate in Firefox

If I use "privacy.firstparty.isolate" feature (setting in about:config), your extension isn't able to remember the sessions. Not closing tab or closing whole browser. Any specific reason why this is happening and if there is any way to fix it?

Links not opening with preferred domain

I set beta.protonmail.com as the preferred domain but links are still opening at mail.protonmail.com. Is there anything else I need to do to make it work?

Open in ProtonMail doesn't login with Vivaldi

I've stored the session permanently and auto checking seems to detect new e-mails, but when I click "Open in ProtonMail" button, it shows a ProtonMail login page instead of just opening the inbox. Any idea why this only seems to be happening in Vivaldi?

Extension No Longer Works with Brave Browser

Problem:

Within the last week or so, the extension no longer works with the Brave browser on Linux Mint 20.3. The icon just shows "ERR".

This is almost identical to another problem report here titled "Keep getting "Session expired" Issue #5." When reviewing the console logs, just like that issue, I see the 401 and 400 response codes when the extension tries to refresh the email list / unopened count.

Within the comments for that issue, there is a proposed fix in file emailFetcherService.ts. I applied the fix, compiled, and installed the modified version. The ERR badge went away but it did not successfully retrieve the unopened count. I believe it was still returning 401 and 400 codes.

Testing:

All of this testing is with Linux Mint 20.3 Cinnamon.

Brave 1.37.111 - Does not work - the current stable version
Brave 1.39.40 - Does not work - the most up to date nightly build I downloaded and tested against
Chrome 100.0.4896.75 - Works
Firefox 99.0 - Works

This appears to be just a problem with Brave. What's troubling here is that it doesn't appear to be just a transient bug in the current stable version of Brave, as it also appears in the very latest nightly build.

Thank you for reviewing this issue.
