Following on from the earlier post ‘The Cassette Converter’ has shared another Galaxie 500 video from an unknown date and venue. The sound is fairly good, the video is very rough.

View post Damon & Naomi’s A Sky Record was an album that came out in drips - firstly as a video of a live performance recorded at the Peabody Essex Museum on the 21st June 2021, then as a booklet/download on the 6th August, next as a CD (in Japan) in May 2022, and finally this LP in July 2022.

I think this was the first Luna appearance on a film soundtrack and their contribution is the opening track on this album of Music from and inspired by the motion picture - in Luna’s case it is from since their cover of Donovan’s Season of the Witch plays while some Warhol superstars are reading the classifieds in a diner.

This 7” is split with Australian band Sand Pebbles and was limited to 300 copies to be sold at dates on their 2001 Australian tour. Dean & Britta’s side contains a Sonic Boom remix of I’ll Keep it With Mine, possibly the only place this is available?

Luna’s Lovedust was released as a CD by Beggars Banquet but only as a promo. It came in a simple card sleeve with a different one of Steve Ellis’s lighter paintings on the sleeve than the one that had been used on Romantica.

Ten years ago Dean Wareham played two exceptional nights at St Pancras Old Church in London, the shows were recorded and released on cassette. Now on the 10th anniversary of those shows the always fabulous Sonic Cathedral is releasing the show on limited edition vinyl for the first time.

I never really loved the cassette as a format, it was conveniently portable (and CDs never really mastered portability) so I had lots of cassettes, but not many of them were pre-recorded. This Rough Trade CD wasn’t bought back in the day but more recently, when you could get cassettes on eBay for pennies. So not that recently since you can’t buy much Galaxie 500 for pennies these days.

The only time Luna got a Single of the Week in one of the major uk music inkies† was with their cover of Bonnie and Clyde which got the accolade in the Melody Maker. I suspect that Laetitia Sadier helped with that somewhat, as the review states “one final point worth mentioning: every Stereolab single to date has been an MM SOTW”
