mobile can't find the computer

NearbyShare from Google on Windows PC (motherbord msi b450i gaming plus ac) does not see macbook air m1. At the same time, Windows PC sees my phone.

I tried to send a photo.
1.- Click Share on Android
2.- I selected my mac
3.- In the Android Nearby menu: it only showed the following PIN message: ####

Which file do you right click on to install?
The folder is in my Applications folder.

hello, every time when i need to send file from Galaxy S23 Ultra to Mac M1 Pro i need to restart NearDrop, because without restart phone cant find mac, can you look at this

Allowed notification permission but nearby share from pixel 6a shows failed to transfer

Rename the file will do the trick

But if there are many files, it does take times.

Оно работает и под MacOS. Было бы очень круто, если бы в будущем мы имели приложение, которое совмещает в себе две нативные технологии с разных платформ. В моем случае это очень полезно, так как, например, у меня есть одногруппники как с windows ноутбуками, так и с макбуками. Одним я могу по воздуху отправить файлы, а другим приходится отправлять в телеграм и тратить интернет.

Failed to share copied text to Macbook.

I have a MacBook pro 13" 2012, and the newest macos version that it supports is 10.15.7. It's very unlikely that it will ever get a software update. So is it even possible to implement support of this version of macos? Because there's a lot of people that have old versions of os, but they would still love to use it. Anyways, thank you for the development of this app, because it's truly amazing!

Hi @grishka , when I share a file it shows me the pin in both devices, but I'm not prompted to enter it.

I don't understand what the pin is for in this case.

I've noticed the application does not work on my device(M1 Air), i've tried installing prior versions, however on my android device my laptop is still not showing up as a device on nearby share.

I've attempted to try other android devices, still not working. However it works perfectly on my friends MBP M1, with my android device, leading me to believe it's a MBA M1 issue

Add option to "Remeber Device" or "Always Allow" or "Trusted Device" to receiving the files.

Having added it to the applications folder, it starts up fine, but Pixel 6A doesn't seem to find the device. Then the app just closes and wouldn't open afterward.

When the app is running, the internet speed drops from 200 mbps to 40 mbps

When I receive a "Failed to receive file" notification error and click on that banner, NearDrop automatically quits.

Will this project get any development or isn't it worth hoping for? I understand that such questions annoy developers, but I come here every day to check if there was an update and would like to know if it is worth continuing to do this ❤

Hi @grishka, congratulations on the project, it would be possible to have screenshots or even better a demonstration video of its use.

I'm using the latest version of NearDrop. It was correctly installed and displayed in the bar, but when I tried to transfer files from my phone, tablet and PC (with Nearby Share beta) I couldn't find Mac in list.

Nowadays it can show menu in system bar, though the entry "Visible to everyone" and "Device name: MacBook Air" both grey and unchangeable. What should I do? Thx.

You know what would be great? Adding the app for Linux users too!

• Figure out what causes Android to show the "device nearby is sharing" notification. I have a suspicion that it's this: https://developers.google.com/nearby/fast-pair/specifications/introduction
• Test whether choosing "receive" in the "nearby share" tab in Google Files makes the device visible via MDNS without any Bluetooth stuff. If it does, that would be a decent stopgap measure
• The entry point to sending needs to be a share extension so one could just right-click a file in Finder to send it, the same way as AirDrop works
• The share extension needs to present some sort of UI to choose a recipient device, then display the status and the transfer progress
• The protocol part is straightforward: just be the client instead of the server

I don't know if file share from Windows to Mac is supported.
Using Windows version of Nearby share which is released by Google, whenever transfer file(png) from Windows laptop to MBP, NearDrop crashed. And here is the crash log from Console.app.

Please consider the possibility of adding option to hide app's icon in MacOS menu bar, so it doesn't take any space. I would love to run it as background service and hide this icon.

Is there any way to specify where a file received by NearDrop is saved? Ideally I'd like it to save to my Desktop instead of the default Downloads folder.

It would be really great that we get notification/update when the File transfer is successful or not.

On the top of that, If the transfer is success, The finder should open at file location.

Unfortunately, I am unable to send anything to my MacBook (Venture 13.3.1, M2) as my Android device (rooted Galaxy S10) is unable to detect it.
I have enabled Bluetooth and Location on both devices, and there were no proxy services running at the time. Additionally, both devices were connected to the same network.

Steps:

1. Copy any text or link
2. Click Share, Nearby share
3. Click the NearDrop device
4. See error on Mac

Normally the system's default language is used, but it would be useful for the user to be able to choose the language he prefers from those available.

Problem:
When using the app I encountered an issue where I did not receive any notifications on my MacBook when attempting to share content from my Android phone. Despite following the necessary steps, including enabling notification permissions for NearDrop, activating notification settings on my MacBook, and initiating the sharing process, no notification appeared on my MacBook.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download and install the NearDrop app on macOS, specifically on an M2 Air.
2. Launch NearDrop on the MacBook.
3. Verify that the notification settings on the MacBook are not in the "Do Not Disturb" (DND) mode.
4. Enable notification permissions for NearDrop to receive all notifications.
5. On an Android phone, initiate the Nearby Share feature.
6. Select a picture or any other content to share.
7. Locate the MacBook as a nearby device to share with.
8. Choose the MacBook from the list of available devices.
9. Observe that the MacBook appears on the Android phone, indicating successful connection.
10. Press the MacBook icon on the Android phone to start sharing.
11. Notice that no notification is displayed on the MacBook.

Expected Behavior:
When initiating a share with Nearby Share on my Android phone and selecting my MacBook as the recipient, I expect to receive a notification on my MacBook indicating the incoming shared content.

Actual Behavior:
Upon selecting the MacBook as the recipient on the Android phone, no notification appears on the MacBook. Therefore, it is not possible to initiate the sharing process or receive any shared content.

Environment:

• macOS version: Ventura 13.4.1
• NearDrop version: 1.1.1
• Android version: OneUI 5.1 on Android 13

Additional Information:
I have also tried restarting both the Android phone and the MacBook to no avail. This issue persists consistently, and no error message or indication of the problem is displayed on either device. Furthermore, I have tested the same scenario with another Android device, and the problem persists, indicating that it is not specific to a particular phone.

Possible Workaround:
Currently, I have found no workaround for this issue. Any guidance or assistance to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Problem: I am not able to open the Neardrop app on my MacBook.

• I directly downloaded the latest version from the GitHub releases section and installed it.
• When I try to open it, it just flashes on my screen for half a second and nothing happened.
  I don't even see an Icon appear on the notification bar.

Device: I am using a 2021 Macbook Pro 14' with an M1 Pro chip, which is running Mac OS ventura13.3.1 (22E261).

I'm using Samsung Galaxy Note Fe (Android 9.0), Macbook Pro Intel Chip (Ventura 13.4) and lastest version (1.1.1)
All turn on bluetooth, same wifi, no vpn, no private relay (on mac) ,no proxy.
But my phone still can't find my mac.
Can someone help?

It works like a charm when sending files/images from my Android (Pixel 6) to my Mac (M1 Max). However, it would be great to be able to receive URLs or text, maybe they could be added to the clipboard.

so it seems there's no way of making hospot on macOS

however it is possible to create a hospot on android, but it has to be disabled in order to use nearby share

is there a way to get around that ? i'm often in places without wifi

kde connect does work without wifi, but u neeed to connect it to your phone hospot (even if the phone has no wifi nor 4g)

The app briefly opens and I can see it in the menu bar but then after a second or two, it disappears from the menu bar and I can't open it anymore. I am on an apple silicon mac.

It would be nice to be able to turn off the notification sound, but there is no Play sound for notification option in the notification preferences panel:

I am able to discover the macbook but not able to send anything. Getting failed error each time. No errors in MBP console also.

It would be great if we can see the total progress of the incoming transfer, Like we see in AirDrop.

So everything works fine in connecting from Samsung phone to Mac...
Sadly, I get a TIME OUT from the sending device after file initiation and send attempt. Doesn't seem to matter the file size or type either. 😕
Any thoughts?

Mac users were left in the cold when Samsung started their relationship with Microsoft; only Android File Transfer and Bluetooth Transfer work now on my devices.

Restarted both devices. Set Nearby Share to "Anyone" on phone.
MAC: MacBook Air 2017; latest updated Monterey OS.
PHONE: Galaxy Fold 4; latest updated Android 13 OS.

Installed successfully, but when trying to send a file, I get "Failed" on Android and the app crashes on mac.

When I try to send a picture from my phone with Nearby Share, I can see my macbook just fine but when I tap on it I get a 4 digit pin I have to type in somewhere, with no prompt or anything on the macbook side. Am I missing something?
