I have tried everything I know to try to improve my performance and get a glimpse of "Project Butter" and
CM10 is barely alpha quality. These are unofficial builds for a good reason, the CM team knows the codebase is not ready for anyone but developers.
I'm getting nothing but anti Project Butter for some strange reason.
The recently updated graphics driver and hardware interface libraries are tied to a significant number kernel changes - the least of which is going from 3.0.8 to 3.0.40. Things are very much in flux and moving rapidly.
I've even tried a replacement device and still have the issue.
Perhaps your expectations are different than others? My personal observation is that the GUI is choppy and slow compared to CM9. Personally my CM9 build is the staple rom on my Note. The only time CM10 get's loaded is when I test a build I think is worthy of "unofficial" release.
it's not affecting all users even though they're on the same device
Unless you have physically seen another device where someone claims it's "awesome" and have verified it makes your device look like a "pos", chalk it up to the fact that you have higher expectations (and so do I).

You are right. It must be an expectation issue. That explains why only a few people are "experiencing a problem" so to speak. I suppose we both just have higher expectations. I owe you an apology for opening an issue so minor on your development hub. I suppose that I was so thrown off by the fact that people spoke of JB's current state as being "smoother and better than CM9 and ICS" and I didn't understand how that could be so when my experience was the opposite (and apparently yours as well). I love your CM9 build and have been using it ever since you released it. I'm extremely happy so I'll just use it until we can move JB development a little further along. If there's anything you would like me to do to start troubleshooting the graphical smoothness though on a development level, please let me know! I want to help in any way I can (I feel like a child trying to help daddy with a construction project lol)! And if you should need a donation, you can always call upon me. In fact, I'll probably go ahead and send a hefty one your way toward the end of next week.
Anyways, is it alright with you if I begin to post new information I can learn about the smoothness issue here as I find it just to keep the information centralized or would you prefer I didn't?

Check out the 20120823 release. Very smooth for me.

Thank you so much for staying in touch with me about the issue. I haven't had much time to be forumly active lately because of a networking project at work but I have noticed a drastic improvement in speed ever since the 8-20 build and even more improvement since today's 8-23 build. It's improvement enough for me to abandon my previous complaints as well as use this as my primary OS on my device. Just for complete analysis sake, I will say that it is slightly below CM9 (or ICS) in terms of graphical performance and is noticeable on things like using a live wallpaper on the home screen as well as Chrome for some reason but is not by any means in an unusable state and I'm sure will be fixed completely in the next few builds as you're clearly on top of it!
If you don't mind me asking though, were you able to trace exactly what was hampering the performance until now? What specific fix made the difference?
And I'm glad to know I wasn't crazy! Picky, maybe, but not crazy! All of the people that were claiming the ROM to be "buttery" (which is in my mind, a state of perfect graphical performance where no possibility of improvement or drop in frame rate can be perceived) before the improvement are somehow claiming it to be more so "buttery" in this release so clearly there was something there.
Thanks again for your hard work!
