support's Issues

Embedding codepen doesnt work

I tried embedding my codepen like the guide suggested ie %[https://codepen.io/ItsMeStevieG/pen/jOEQRjj] and it fails to embed

Theme switcher text animation is ugly, disorienting and janky

The problem

When you switch themes, the text animation is very janky and disorienting, and would be much worse for those with motion sickness.

I propose to get rid of the animation entirely. It's looking much better without the animation.

Before:

Screen.Recording.02-02-2021.19-50-19.mp4

(Note: This animation is much worse without recording. It's not janking as much during the recording.

After:

Screen.Recording.02-02-2021.19-53-11.mp4

The theme change effect pops out more than I'd like it to, but it's at least a bit better.

I love this initiative by Hashnode. You folks are just killing it. I'd love to contribute.

If I have your permission, can I open a PR to fix this? It's a one liner in the CSS.

Thanks

Lack of encoding in RSS support

Hello,

The RSS URL of blog seems to not render accented characters.

I suppose it's because of the response header "Content-Type: text/xml" without charset (utf8).

URL to reproduce : https://niji.tech/rss.xml

A french user using a RSS client reported the problem to me today.

Thx

Error when editing published articles leads to error page instead of the edited page

Description:
I have encountered a bug on the Hashnode platform related to editing published articles. When I attempt to edit a previously published article, after editing instead of being directed to the edited page, I am redirected to an error page.

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Log in to the Hashnode platform.
  • Go to your published articles section.
  • Select one of the published articles you want to edit.
  • Click on the edit button or the edit option associated with the article, edit something in it.
  • Instead of being directed to the edited page, an error page is displayed.

Expected Behavior:
After editing a published article, I expect to be directed to the edited page where I can see the changes.

Actual Behavior:
Instead of being directed to the edited page, I am redirected to an error page, which prevents me from seeing changes made to the article.

  • I have tried clearing my browser cache and using different browsers, but the issue persists.
  • Other functionalities of the Hashnode platform are working correctly; this issue seems to be specific to editing published articles.

Can't login to the same account

Here's my hashnode account

my hashnode account

I signed up using my GitHub account and even created few blogs.
Now when I'm trying to sign in using my GitHub account it's asking me to create a new account.

My emails which were associated with my GitHub account during signing up on hashnode are still the same and have not changed whatsoever.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

Feature request: reset password by username.

Hello,

A few months back I created my HashNode account using GitHub login. After that, I changed my email on GitHub. I use Apple's Hide My Email feature. So I forgot the email that was connected to my GitHub account back then. All I have is my HashNode username. I have contated to the support email a week ago. No reply was given to me yet.

Can you have a look into that? My username hsblhsn. My website hsblhsn.me.

Thank you!

Add a hyperlink for the Medium Blog Export section details

Issue

In the Import Articles section, there is a guide for importing Medium Articles. On top of the detailed guide provided about the how-to, we can add a link to how to export the medium zip file too in one of the steps.

User Story

User wanted to perform blog imports from medium and dev.to; she had to search a bit on how to export Medium blogs. Since it required her multiple clicks, she dropped off instead. (happened with me yesterday)

Solution

A better way could be to just add a official medium help link which briefs about how to export zip as a hyperlink.

Additional Context

Let me know if this sounds good. Alternatively, we can also show 2 extra steps for how to export from medium; but in my opinion, it will be better to give a link because if there are any changes; our documentation would get outdated.

Thanks!

Add Issue and Pull Request Templates

Issue and PR templates can help the contributors better define the problem they want to solve.

In the recent github update, the yml files are also supported for templates; which make it even more easier to raise and discuss issues as it is more like a form. Though, both the markdown template and yml are equally good alternatives to choose.

Things that we can take care for issue/PR templates:

  • Should be clear and precise
  • Should not be tightly defined. Meaning, the users should easily be able to express their opinions in the issue instead of being bounded by the input/template fields.
  • The maintainers can directly add the templates from the settings instead of manually creating a .github file.
  • Configure the template chooser page to also add contact links (in our case, discord or similar).

Let me know how does this sound. Thanks!

Bookmarks organizing feature [REQUESTED]

It would be nice to have an organizing feature for Bookmarks similarly to the feature that Pinterest has organizing boards.

Nevertheless hashnode is very lightweight as a user I do appreciate I can share online . Stay alive fellas ! 👍🏼
