Thank you! I have starred the repo. For anyone else out there having the same question, the final function goes like this:

 var searched2 = JSON.search( snapshot, '//attributes[contains(Country, "'+ searchterm +'")]/..' );

Add the /.. to go back up a level and get the parent object.

Thank you, I was having trouble with it only searching the first element of an array at a deeper level, so now I can search at that level then go up one. Took me ages to find an explanation!

This is easy...just add ".." to the end of your query expression. The "dot-dot" addresses the parent of the current context (check out the Expressions Table at www.defiantjs.com).

var searched2 = JSON.search( snapshot, '//attributes[contains(Country, "'+ searchterm +'")]' );
