You can tell Requests to stop waiting for a response after a given number of seconds with the timeout parameter. Nearly all production code should use this parameter in nearly all requests. Failure to do so can cause your program to hang indefinitely.

I'm having exactly this issue, where it hangs indefinitely when there is something wrong with the network. Then I have to go in and kill processes manually to get my dashboard to be green again.

The 0.2.0 release on Pypi contains the code from release 0.1.0. On github, the release is correct. This means that installing heartbeat_sh via pip causes the previous release to be installed.

After @rudolfbyker's pull requests were merged a new verion release on pypi is in order. We will release v0.1.0 soon
