Have you put boot-magisk.img and initrd-magisk.img into your .iso?
Or install into a f2fs into a virtual disk?

Sure, I did that by mounting the qcow2 image.

.iso is always mounted real-only.

boot-magisk.img that is put into f2fs is mounted read-only, too, temporarily.
No specific cause has been found, temporarily. -
boot-magisk.img that is put into ext4 is mounted readably/writably.

Like operating on your Android Phone, you can copy boot-magisk.img into your /sdcard/Download.
Open Magisk app, select and patch a file, to select /sdcard/Download/boot-magisk.img and patch.
And then copy patched magisk-xxxxxx.img into another partition.
And then rename it boot-magisk.img and copy to cover that into /$SRC/boot from thatthat partition.
