If you want to support alternative weight definitions at the same time, e.g. Price|Carbon (weighted by Final Energy) and Price|Carbon (weighted by gross emissions) you would need to add multiple items to the weight field and the rename field. E.g.

weight: [Final Energy, GDP|MER]
rename: [Price|Carbon (weighted by Final Energy), Price|Carbon (weighted by GDP)]

This is specially important to support supply side models, as them will most of the time need to use different weight variables in comparison with IAMs.

Looks like a sensible solution to me. Should not be terribly difficult to implement with the appropriate checks, things like:

• Are the lists in weight and rename the same length
• Are the entries in rename unique
• ...
