👋 Hello!

I'm a software engineer building GitHub here on GitHub .

I mostly focus on front-end web development (in vanilla JS, TypeScript, React, and Angular) but I've also done server-side work (in Java and Scala), Windows applications, desktop software plugins, and even embedded systems. My resume is public and mostly updated.

I graduated from USF in 2020 with a degree in mechanical engineering, where I spent way too much of my time building rockets 🚀.

In my free time I go to concerts, build stuff, and race sailboats in Tampa Bay ⛵.

Numbers cannot be seen in daylight conditions

In bright light, the display is very hard to read. This is partially due to a combination of #3 and #4, as well as the display itself just not being very high contrast.

The display has very poor viewing angles

The numbers on the display can only be read from a very small angle - almost directly head-on.

The only solution here is likely going to be a new display module. Maybe E-Ink?

Backlight can't be turned off or dimmed

The backlight cannot be turned off at all. Originally I integrated a photosensor into the design so the backlight could be controlled automatically, but the LCD display board I used seems to be incorrectly designed (internally) such that the backlight is permanently on. In the daytime, this makes the display hard to read. In the nighttime, it is almost blinding.

I think a solution here may just be to not support backlighting at all -- it doesn't feel necessary.
