A common confusion is that IATI publishes or alters data in some way, or that we can dictate what an individual organisation shares. So it would be good to be very clear when d-portal is showing what is reported by an organisation vs what is reported about them.

How about "View activities reported by this organisation"? Then it's echoing the language of the standard.

While we're on this, lets change "IATI Publishers" to "Reporting organisations" (channels @stevieflow "Am I an IATI Publisher?" etc etc)

from d-portal.

And move from "View this Publisher as a Participating Org" to "View this organisation as a Participating Org"?

from d-portal.

Great, thanks @IsabelBirds

So - @notshi -> please could we:

  • when a participating-org/@ref page has a know reporting-org/@ref: "View activities reported by this organisation"
  • when a reporting-org/@ref has records for participating-org/@ref: "View this organisation as a Participating Org"

I'll create a new issue for

"IATI Publishers" to "Reporting organisations"

Thanks @emmajclegg & @IsabelBirds

from d-portal.

This change is now live - do let me know otherwise.

from d-portal.

notshi avatar notshi commented on July 17, 2024 1

Apologies - missed that entirely for some reason.

when a participating-org/@ref page has a know reporting-org/@ref: "View activities reported by this organisation"

The label has now been corrected, as above.

@stevieflow Do we need to use IATI terms or could we say something plainer like "View data that this organisation has published"

If vetoed, I think "View this Participating Org as a Publisher (Reporting Org)" is the clearer of the two suggestions above.

The capitilisation of Publisher does risk confusion with the IATI Publisher tool. While working on our IATI Glossary I would like us to be more consistent going forward in the use of publisher vs. Publisher !

Thanks @emmajclegg

That's a great suggestion.

Any further thoughts @IsabelBirds ?

@notshi many thanks

I'm not sure the labels are exactly as #669 (comment)

I seem to see:

  • View this organisation as a Participating Org
  • View this Participating Org as an organisation

The second one doesn't make much sense ;)

If these are set by a variable, then maybe change organisation to Reporting Org, so we are fully aligned with the standard?

from d-portal.

Perfect, thanks @notshi
