bare-metal's Issues

The WSUS servers in IBM Cloud work only with operating system patches.

The WSUS servers in IBM Cloud work only with operating system patches.
I recommend to modify the following description to make it clear that the WSUS servers in IBM Cloud does not provide the patches for Microsoft provided software such as Windows Defender, SQL Server and so on.
"IBM provides OS and software update services for Microsoft Windows Server environments free of charge."

Reloading the OS should not be done for IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions ESXi hosts

Hi... I work on IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions.

Our vCenter Server (VCS) offering orders an ESXi bare metal from the datacenter and then does additional VMware configuration on the host to make the host part of a VMware cluster and add the host to an Active Directory Domain.

Reloading the OS sets the host configuration back to what it looked like when the datacenter finished configuring it.

That is, OS reload wipes out the additional IBM Cloud for Vmware Solutions VMware and domain configuration. The host no longer functions properly in the VMware cluster.

Could you add a warning like this:

Customers using the IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions vCenter Server (VCS) offering should not use the Reloading the OS option on ESXi bare metals that are part of a VCS instance.

Broken Link

Hi

Trying to resolve my servers showing as 'Disconnected' due to ping disabled in firewall.

Link "For more information, see IBM Cloud® IP ranges." is broken.

Please provide correct link to the "IBM Cloud® IP ranges." documentation.

Doc outdated: Viewing bandwidth graphs

The doc proposes the following steps to view the bandwidth graphs:

  1. Click the Menu icon Menu icon > Classic Infrastructure > Network > Bandwidth.
  2. Select the type of network usage (public or private) from the View list.

There is no View list on the Bandwidth page.

Please add note IBM Cloud's offered WSUS is only for the customer who purchased their lisence from IBM

Please add clear explanatino of IBM Cloud's offered WSUS server is only for the customer who purcased lisesnce from IBM.

Expected explanation
Line 1
Current:
IBM provides OS and software update services for Microsoft Windows Server environments free of charge.
Expected:
IBM provides OS and software update services for Microsoft Windows Server environments free of charge if OS licence is purchaged from IBM Cloud.

This current explanation confused customer global elite customer and lead to Q/A sessino with ACS and TAM
Thanks for our understandings

please provide details of the possible local data center hostnames

In this topic we have the following bullet:
Change wsusdal0102 to the local data center where your virtual server is provisioned.

to my knowledge wsusdal0102 is not a local data center. I'm guessing it could be one in DAL, but not sure which one. Is there a way we could provide the local data center hostnames, so if someone is in DAL10 or WDC04, they know exactly what to use?

Send translation packages

@jmilst
Translation packages need to be sent for the Bare Metal Server repo. There are currently some links that are broken because updated files haven't been sent into translation.
https://ibm.ent.box.com/file/164493386852 this says that GSA ID=jmilst ([email protected]), GSA ID = bperish ([email protected]) is the current owner.

Here's the TCT issue that has the broken links: https://www-06.ibm.com/software/globalization/translationcommunications/BaseServlet.wss?taskName=ReadArticlePre&arrefnum=7702048067&prrefnum=2000007910.

The link that is currently broken is for https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/bare-metal?topic=bare-metal-about-bm#about-bm. This link works for English, but it doesn't work the other languages because it hasn't been sent to translation since the topic ID has been changed.

Bare Metal add-ons - Additional NICs missing (including price)

I cannot find anywhere the List Price for an additional NIC port, added via a ticket after bare metal provisioning is complete. Its not available to order with a Bare Metal Server, and has to be raised as a request after the Bare Metal Server has been provisioned, so please can someone add this important content (including the pricing so that users can understand the costs of adding the additional NIC ports). It could be added in several places, but I thought here might be good - https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/bare-metal?topic=bare-metal-about-bm#bm-add-ons. It would be good to clarify that if you have a bare metal on private only NICs, whether an additional NIC can be on public or not too, so that people understand what they can do.

PLease add more information here : https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/bare-metal?topic=bare-metal-bm-view-bandwidth-graphs#bm-optimize-bandwidth-usage

Hi .. please help to add more information in this page :

https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/bare-metal?topic=bare-metal-bm-view-bandwidth-graphs#bm-optimize-bandwidth-usage

information needed :

  • screenshot on the Bandwith Pooling page.
  • Can Baremetal and VSI both be pooled ? .. or this only valid for Baremetal only ?

if client buy bandwith package, how to apply this against spesific server or spesific bandwidth pool.

Restoring your bare metal device - R1soft

https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/bare-metal?topic=bare-metal-restoring-your-server-from-an-r1soft-image#restoring-your-bare-metal-device

This seems to be out of date: There is a new function (button) in the IBM Cloud UI to boot an in house ISO, which is the newest R1soft BMR ISO (6.14)

These are the steps to boot that ISO:

Recovery ISO mount:

1)Click Bare metal to be restored: https://cloud.ibm.com/gen1/infrastructure/devices
2)On the device details page, select ACTIONS in the top right of the page
3)Select "Bare Metal Restore "
4)The ISO will take approximately 10 minutes to boot and to start the cdp-agent.

No login is necessary with this ISO. The function above (button) will boot the ISO, setup networking and start the cdp-agent.

Comment from development - VPN references incorrect

https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/bare-metal?topic=bare-metal-bm-mount-iso

Feedback from development:

For the methods to work, you need to connect to the private network through the SL VPN service, such as IBM Cloud SSL VPN Portal - AMS01 or through another server that is connected to the network.
https://vpn.ams01.softlayer.com/prx/000/http/localhost/login?_ga=2.112195012.1510132902.1573504349-401370915.1572976523

Zero reason to link directly to a VPN appliance, and the person left their google analytics token in the link 🤦

in general, this page needs to be evaluated for VPN mentions.

more detail needed

Additional information is need to better understand the process. Questions to be answered:

  • What information will be included in the image?
  • What information will not be included in the image?
  • How are multiple drives handled?
  • Are there any limits or restrictions for creating/using bare metal images?

Kind regards,

Step numbering is broken

It seems there are 19 steps but the SAP note breaks the numbering and implies the last 9 steps are for SAP only.

No descriptions of network options

"Under Network Interface, select the Uplink Port Speeds and Private VLAN options. Expand Add-ons to select the appropriate options or use the default values."

There is no description or guidance on the meanings of the various options.

London locations

LON04 and LON05 are also 25Gbps capable now, this should be reflected in the Doc.

Update the Lifecycle for operating systems and add-ons page with RHEL SAP and HANA info

Update the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) table under Lifecycle for operating systems and add-ons page with following data.
The SAP and HANA details were missing from the RHEL table.
The classic life cycle page and VPC are totally different now, so would like to align them.

Classic - https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/bare-metal?topic=bare-metal-product-lifecycle-classic
VPC - https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/vpc?topic=vpc-guest-os-lifecycle

Publish in docs, not Service Now: How do you use LSI commands?

Back in June, Louis Shin ([email protected]) submitted a document to the Service Now knowledge base for publishing entitled, "How do you use LSI commands?" Based on the extensive content in the document, I believe that the information belongs in the IBM Cloud docs and not in the Service Now knowledge base. Please work with Louis to incorporate this content. Here is the information:

Need a section in Bare Metal FAQs for common access issues

Many of our customers when using Bare Metal and Virtual Servers for Classic have access issues. e.g.:

  • My server is showing as down
  • I cannot ping my server
  • I cannot RDP/SSH/VNC/KVM to my server

Need a section in Bare Metal FAQs for the above common access issues.
