Die Katalogdatei basiert auf der internationalen Norm DIN EN ISO 16739 (IFC) und dem deutschen Standard STLB-Bau. Inhaltlich besteht die DIN SPEC 91400 aus einem Suchbaum, einem globalen Pool mit Bauteilgruppen und Bauteileigenschaften

Die BIM-Klassifikation nach STLB-Bau ist ein offener Standard, der als Katalogdatei im IfcXML-Format nach IFC4 vorliegt und von jedem Software-Anbieter in seine BIM-Anwendersoftware integriert werden kann
