xengt-preview-kernel's Issues

Testing results of XenGT on BayTrail

Hello,

I picked up the baytrail patch in the repository and tried to run it on Asus T100 (BayTrail) and encountered 3 issues:

  1. In the domU booting phase, it shows a kernel warning:

I'm not sure this is an important warning or not. But after this warning, kernel is proceeding its initiation anyway.

  1. The second issue is: domU's ubuntu desktop is not properly working. Just the background screen shows up and I can move mouse pointers. But, nothing happens afterward. So, I uninstall ubuntu desktop and install xubuntu desktop. And Xubuntu desktop looks working for me.

  2. In Xubuntu desktop, I tried to run glxgears (very simple opengl application), but it gives this message and failed.

glxgears: brw_vs.c:138: brw_compute_vue_map: Assertion `!"VUE map not known for this chip generation"' failed.
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.

I'm willing to take a deeper look, and appreciate if you tell me some comments or pointers.

XenGT_Setup_Guide

hi,
would you offer a new XenGT_Setup_Guide? It seems not suit for the new repo now.
thanks.

Xen EFI support and boot loader configuration w/ XenGT

I use the Minnowboard Max board to test XenGT but there's only EFI. I was wondering if there is any experience of booting Xen-GT on a EFI system so I followed this documents :

http://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Xen_EFI
http://xenbits.xenproject.org/docs/unstable/misc/efi.html

xen.efi compilation succeeded but a few documentation is available for the configuration file. Is the grub vgt options could be also working with efi ?

This is what is get when I boot xengt :

some operation quesions

HI,
XenGT works very well, but I have some operation quesions below, would you help me please?
1)How can I partition global graphics memory resources among VMs?(vgt_low_gm_sz or somewhere else)
2)How can I switch to Dom0 when I in a fullscreen DomU?(WIN7)
3)I can't move mouse pointer in DomU when I set xen_vgt.hvm_boot_foreground=0(WIN7)

Dom0 framebuffer still very slow

Hello,

I'm seeing a lot of warnings and things that look like errors (with !) in dmesg and the framebuffer is very slow. I'm using CentOS, the latest version.

My dmesg is the following:

Headless Setup

Hi everyone,

I really like the idea behind this project and I am curious to apply this in the following setup:

Xeon 1225 V3, Supermicro X10SLM-F (C226) MB, integrated GPU enabled. There is no physical display-port wired to the gpu. (I hat do include the following kernelmodules to make the kernel working on my system (see diff at the end)

Aim:
running one Windows 7 VM and one Linux VM both in indirect mode and connect via VNC.

So far I got ubuntu 14.04.3 with the modified 2015Q3 xen-kernel running as DomO. The Windows VM works only if i set vgt = 0 in the .hvm config file. vgt=1 seems to work, but the vnc-display stays black. As I don't really know, what logs may be important, please let me know what you need.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated!
Regards,
Tobias

The possibility of fence register full virtualization

Currently, fence registers are partitioned between VMs, thus a single VM has a subset of fence registers.

Is it possible to support a VM a full set of fence regiseters by saving and restoring fence registers when vGPU context switch time?

If it is possible, guest driver won't be modified for fence registers and also a VM can use a full set of fence registers.

Vm won't start with vgt=1 i3-4130

Question regarding address space ballooning

Hello,

I've got a question regarding the address space ballooning of XenGT.
The paper says that the address space ballooning only happens for global memory. Is this global memory the PCI BAR 2 memory of GPU Device?

For instance, if I issue lspci, it gives

$ lspci -v -s 00:02.0 | grep size
Memory at f7800000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
Memory at e0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
I/O ports at f000 [size=64]

And, is the global memory the physical memory at 0xe0000000 (256MB)?

pdf setup guide characters

There are some formatting issues in the PDF that cause the - character to become a non-standard hyphen.

This causes issues in the terminal when copy/pasting the commands.

Instances of this character: – (– hex: e2 80 93 ) are parsed by the terminal as a filename character vs a command switch. They should be replaced by - (hex: 2d).

example:

# make –j8 xen tools

this fails.

GPU driver on host

I could not find information about the required driver for the host.
Is the standard xf86-video-intel right?
Can an additional GPU cause problems? Is it possible to use bublebee on host?

Question about graphic stack

Hello,

I currently try to use XenGT in Tizen. I'm following the guide you provide with the project. My question is about the graphic stack section : Tizen uses Wayland and not Xorg.

I am wondering if XenGT could work anyway ?

Thanks you,
Best regards
