Yes, that definitely seems sane. I'll work on adding the feature to Hypatia and Hypatia::DBI, and should have a patch out by the end of this week.

Actually, adding that patch was easier than I thought, and that's the main feature in version 0.02 (which I've just pushed here and which you should be able to find on CPAN shortly). You can now do:

dbi=>{
    dbh=>$dbh,
    table=>"some_table_name" #or a query, whatever
}

I also included a unit test to make sure that it works. Thank you very much for the feedback! :)
