hypatia's Issues

Reasonable column name/type defaults - take from query result?

On the TODO list in the docs:

Allow "reasonable" defaults for column names and types. For example, if we have a line graph in Chart::Clicker, and if the query only specifies two columns, then take the first column to be of type x and the second of type y. To do this properly, the query will have to be parsed. Sadly, Parse::SQL doesn't seem to correctly parse queries that contain sub-queries.

A possible alternative method would be to avoid parsing the query - just execute it, then look at the column names in $sth->{NAME} and types in $sth->{TYPE}; I think that would be simpler and cleaner than trying to parse the query itself.

Allow existing DB connection to be provided?

It would seem sane to be able to pass in a pre-existing DBI::db connection handle as an alternative to providing connection details - for instance:

my $hypatia = Hypatia->new({
    back_end   =>"Chart::Clicker",
    graph_type =>"Line",
    dbh        => $dbh,
    query      => '....',
    columns    => ...,
});
