I addressed this in the Login Security Policy Extension (draft-gould-regext-login-security-policy) by choosing Perl-compatible Regular Expression (PCRE) syntax. I can add the appropriate informational reference to PCRE within the Registry Mapping draft and directly refer to PCRE for each of the regular expression elements.

Added a "Regular Expressions" section that describes the regular expression syntax used in the draft, which is Perl-compatible Regular Expression (PCRE). The elements that use regular expression values reference the new "Regular Expressions" section. Referencing the expected regular expression syntax to use is based on feedback from Patrick Mevzek.
