eecs2311's Issues

Open button not working

Author: Aya Abu Allan
Product Version: BrailleAuthoringApp.v1.1
Component: “Open” buttons is disabled
Platform: Java Version 8
Operating System: OS X El Capitan

Summary
Cannot open pre-existing or newly created text files.

Description
Steps to Reproduce:
If the user attempts to open a file, they go to File --> Open and it stops here.

Actual Results
Nothing happened when Open was clicked.

Expected
Typically when there's an open button, a browsing option in a pop-up menu is expected. It should display pre-existing and newly created text files.

Severity
This is a major bug because it disables an important function that was also required for the midterm submission. The app is practically useless if the user cannot load any scenarios.

Priority
The ranking of this bug is P2 since opening text files is a pretty major functionality.

Improper implementation of 'New' button

Operating System:
Windows 10

Java version:
Version 8 Update 144 (build 1.8.0_144-b01)

Product Version:
BrailleAuthoringApp.v1.1

Component:
Menu Bar

Summary:
When the user creates a new scenario, it doesn't actually start a new fresh scenario. It keeps commands from the previously created scenario at the beginning of every newly created scenario.

Description:
Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Click File > New.
  2. Enter a file name and number of Braille cells and click Create.
  3. Select any of the 3 options and start adding lines to the text file.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Click File > New.
  6. Enter a unique file name and number of Braille cells and click Create.
  7. Repeat steps 3 and 4.
  8. Open the file you created in Steps 5 & 6.

Actual Results
The new scenario file created in step 5 contains content from the previously created scenario in step 1.
Expected Results
When the New button is clicked, a completely fresh and independant scenario should be created.

Priority:
P3

Severity Value:
Minor

Cannot Save Newly Created Scenarios

Author: Mark Savin
Product Version: BrailleAuthoringApp.v1.1
Component: “Save” and “Save as…” buttons in the file drop down menu
Platform: Java Version 8
Operating System: Windows 10
Bug detected on March 06, 2018 at 10:00 PM

Summary
Cannot save a newly created scenario.

Description
Steps to Reproduce
Create a scenario by selecting file --> New…--> select number of cells and number of buttons --> create. After you are done creating your scenario save it by selecting --> file --> save or save as…. After saving, the newly created scenario should appear in the FactoryScenarios folder, but it does not, indicating that the scenario was not saved.

Actual Results
The newly created scenario was not saved.

Expected
The created scenario should have been saved and stored in the FactoryScenarios folder.

Severity
The severity is major. If the app cannot save scenarios, then the teacher does not have a way to provide lessons to their students which defeats the purpose of creating the app. Re-creating scenarios every time is not a practical solution and does not make sense.

Priority
P2, this is a high priority. If the bug does not get resolved, then the teacher will not be able to provide lessons to students and this defeats the purpose of creating the app. This bug also directly affects the functionality to load scenarios. If you can’t save files, then you have nothing to load. However, this bug does not crash the app or harm it in any way. In this regard, fixing it right away is not urgent, but, to have a fully functioning Braille App capable of teaching visually impaired children to learn the alphabet, the save feature is essential.

**Operating System: Windows 10

Java Version: Version 8 Update 73 (build 1.8.0_73-b02)

  1. Create Scenario from the main menu
  2. Enter scenario name and number of braille cell and button
  3. While on the 'Scenario Editor' page, click 'File' from the menu bar and click 'New...'
  4. On 'New Scenario' dialog box, click Cancel.
