ghg_analytics's Issues

Write Project Introduction

  • Reference and Introduce SDG 13

  • Describe methodology

  • ? Create executive summary for the very beginning of the report.

New Changes in Issue 13

I created the dictionary. We can check where we want to use it.

For the graph: #Sorted bar chart of 2012 greenhouse gases.
I am using the ghgDf_merged data frame to be able to work on year 2014. Filled the missing values for 2013 and 2014. The graph works fine for 2012. The moment I change it to 2013 or 2014, there is an error. Couldn't figure out why.??

Same for the graph: # Time series for ghg emissions of the top 10 most polluting countries.
The same code is not working with the merged data frame even for 2012.
So these two graphs are still for 2012.

I put the differences on the graph 2030 NDCs. vs 2030 projections.

For the scatter plot graph, when I try to divide it into four whole graph is shifted and does not look really nice now. I commented out that part. Will check on Wednesday, when we meet. I have no more time today :(

Label all figures

Create a consistent labelling format so it is easier to reference figures and so the report looks pretty.

Is there some easy way to do this automagically?

Unify working data (variables, names, etc.)

After #12, #10, and #11, we now need to re-align the data to make sure the environment we have created is clean and works with itself.

Section 1:
Jason

  • Reindex to just ISO codes (drop country names)
  • Change plotted data to PIK and CAIT Forecasts only (variable names)
  • Clean up dataframe merging

Gamze

  • Create dictionary to match country code [keys] to name (use World Bank's names)[values]

Aashna

  • Reorganize the narrative

Section 2:
Gamze

  • Extend GHG Emissions starting between 1990-2012 to 2014

Section 3:
Aashna

  • Reorganize Green Climate Fund with Historical Contributions
  • Switch historical emissions from CAIT CO2 to PIK all GHGs
  • Interpretation of graphs in the carbon debt section

Gamze

  • Beautify Circle Scatter with Axes and Names

Need to match countries between WB and CAIT databases

While doing 812522f, I realized that country names do not match between the WB and CAIT databases. If we remove WB entirely, this will be fine.. but we need to use 'two' databases.

For example, one uses 'USA' and the other ' United States of America'. Though the conversion factor I was supposed to do is now done, it is very obviously incorrect! I think the biggest reason is that the US is missing in the analysis.

These country names need to be matched.

I've committed and pushed everything up. If we do get rid of WB database entirely, then we will run into a bit of an issue.

  • Keep WB
  • Remove WB
  • Keep WB but don't use it for analysis (make this note as a 'discovery' or insight).
